do you mix each batch separately, then pour into pan together?
or put two cake mixes & ing. in mixer bowl?
or how do you do it?

For regular recipes, mixes and doctored mixes, I have done both ways with no problems, as long as your mixer is big enough.

Ditto for me. I have also found that some recipes actually advise "do not double". Otherwise, go ahead. I have even tripled some recipes with no problemo.

I just have a hand mixer and a regular mixing bowl. I wonder if two mixes will fit.

A regular cake mix is about 5 cups of batter more or less. Why don't you take your bowl and measue how many cups it holds by using a measuring cup and water. If it fills way to high then you'll splatter the batter everywhere so just stick to one at a time.

I tried this last night with a hand mixer....KA is still only a dream for me!! icon_sad.gif I do NOT recommend it...my bowl was plenty large, but to mix everything up that was at the bottom of the bowl I almost submerged the bottom part of the mixer - the beaters were all the way in up to the body of the part that houses the motor....that's not good!! lol icon_razz.gif I dug around and found my Tupperware "That's A Bowl" bowl.....it's huge but it's really wide and not so deep.

So my advice: unless you have a very wide, somewhat shallow bowl, don't try it 'cause you'll never get everything mixed down at the bottom using the hand mixer....have to do it by hand.

But the cakes turned out ok...lol.

I have mixed up as many as four mixes with my hand mixer. However...I have this really big silver shallow bowl. I have an old KA...but I still like using my hand mixer.

I always mix 2 batches together. I also have a KA. The only problem I've ever had w/ mixing 2 batches is forgetting to scrape the bottom & sides of the bowl before you mix for 2 minutes. That is a big mess when you pour the batter in the pan! Oops too late.. you can't get it back out. That's happened to me lots of times!!

I did both. My first two cakes, I mixed separetly. They were pink cakes & for some reason, the batters were two different shades of pink. Maybe it was just from the first one sitting for a little bit while I mixed the second. Then for the two milk chocolates, I put both mixes and all the ingredients in a regular glass mixing bowl and mixed it all up with my hand mixer. Worked just find. I have a hand mixer that has two wisks for beaters and I just love it. It doesn't rip the spatula out of your hand or tear it up if you accidentually let go of it.
