Do You Suppose This Would Work? (Wilton Baby Shower Cake?)

I just looked through the baby shower cake gallery. (I don't own any wilton yearbooks) but noticed that someone gave instructions on how to do the baby shower cake, (you know, the one that looks like a baby, then cover in fondant... the one with the cute little toes that everyone raves about?)

Well, I'm doing a shower cake for a 'gender-unknown' shower in Sept. I was thinking about this cake... but we're expecting about 50 for this party. Do you think it would look too grotesque if I did this one out of a 14" for the head and 12" for the body??? Or 12" for the body and 10" for the head?

I just want to make sure there's enough cake for everyone and I'm not too keen on making several of the smaller cakes (9" for head and 8" for body, which I think are what the instructions call for...)

Am I making sense? Do you think making a larger version of this cake is doable?

I beleive that would work, just as long as you keep the head and body in proportion with each other.

Personally I think I would stick with the 8" and 9" then stack them on a sheet cake and do a background of a bed or cover the sheet cake with a blanket then the baby laying on top of it. Or do another cake along side to go along with it, like a baby bottle.

Hope these ideas help and don't confuse you more on what to do.

Good luck.

Yes... keep the head and body in proportion... you don't want it to look freakish....
and putting it on a 1/2 sheet cake done like a bed with a blankie would be adorable...
But your the one that has to do the baking and decorating...
Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

When I made the baby cake, the instructions call for the body and head to be the same size! I have the picture posted if you care to take a peek!
