Hi everyone,

I have this full sheet cake to do with Batman and the Moon done with gel transfer. The price I quoted her is $75.00.

This is how I will be decorating it: Batman with the Moon gel transfer, on the sides I am writing "Batman Forever" and his emblem.

My question is this, do you think $75.00 is to much? My local bakery charge $38.00 for a full sheet plain. They charge $5.00 for edible image and they do not decorate their cakes like we do, they said that it is to time consuming. I am the only one so far in my area that do this type of decorating.

Please help me with this because I don't want to over charge nor undercharge.

I'm not sure what size your full size is .. i don't feel $75 is too much at all if it's as large as I'm thinking it is (like two 11 x 15" cakes or two 12 x 18" cakes) ... I charge $40 and up for a 12 x 18 cake.

Absolutely not too high. Actually depending on how you decorate it, I might even charge a little more. My basic price includes buttercream, any other decorating technique increases the price, and my full sheet start at $50.00.

A full sheet is a pretty big cake... It serves what about 60 servings....?

A specialty bakery in my area charges for a full sheet $60.00. That is probably for a simple cake, no special design like the one you are doing.

It all depends... how high is your cake, what type of filling if any, etc..

Might be a good idea to keep things simple to charge per slice and according to difficulty...

For example:

For a simple cake, $1.25 per slice
Extra $2.00 - $3.00 to total cost, depending on type of filling

More complex design, $1.50 per slice

Difficult design, $1.75 - $1.85 per slice. This is where a lot of piping detail is involved, sculpting, etc.

Thanks everyone.

The size is 11x15. I'm putting a bid on e-bay for the 12x18. If I win it and receive it in time, I will be using the 12x18 pan and it is 3" deep.

I can't even get a 12x18 in my oven! I tend to bake 1/4 sheets and put them together. But a good thing about that is that I can offer more than one flavor!

Debbi

Oh yeah, $75.00 is not too much to charge for a full sheet.

I find it so interesting that there is such a diversity of serving sizes across the country. Where I live, in NJ, a full sheet cake is expected to feed 100 people. 99.9% of the time it is a filled cake. I use a commercial 1/2 sheet pan which measures approx. 11 x 17 1/2 inches. I bake 4 cakes in this size pan. I put two cakes side by side, fill them, put the top layer on and frost and decorate. I charge $110 for this cake. This price includes the decorations, even edible images. (which I do charge extra for on smaller cakes). I use the 12 x 18 wilton pan as a "large" 1/2 sheet and tell my customers that it feeds approx. 60 people.

I use 2 12X18 pans. I charge $80. If there is anything extra on it or if the customer wants flavors other then chocolate, yellow or white then that will be extra. I also charge a flat rate of 8 roses then anything over that I charge more. Any icing other then BC I charge more. I charge $40 for a 1/2 sheet cake. So that's just double! No, you are not over charging~ Keep that price of $75. Add more if it's more involved~ Good luck~

Okay, I have definitely been undercharging for my cakes! The Mexican Party one I did for $55 and that was two 9"X13" cakes stacked...and scratch cakes at that! The baby shower one I did for $30 but only because my sis-in-law ordered it and she has brought me some business....otherwise it would have been $50... and I thought I was a little on the expensive side!

Hi stephanie214! If you use 2 11x15 sheets...I do not think 75.00 is too much at all. I charge 50.00 for a 12x18 sheet cake with normal decorating. I am doing a 12x18 sheet cake next weekend...but will have strawberry filling...I am charging 60.00 for that. I can't wait to see a picture of your cake...it sounds really neat!

Thanks everyone for your help. It just kept coming to my mind that maybe it was a bit much. She never made a complaint about the price.

After hearing all your feedback, I now feel so much better
