Here is a suggestion for those who tell their significant other: "yes, dear I do plan on using that more than once" when they have purchased something for cake decorating. I purchased the Wilton Tall Tier cake stand to use a portion of it for the wilton Baby Go Round (or at least my own take on it.) $46.00 (plus tax) later- my husband was not exactly happy that I bought it, but my mom (of all people ) came up with another use for it. Place grease resistant doiles on the plates (with holes cut out in the middle) and then you can put appetizers, fruit, cheese, crackers, dessert (or whatever your little heart desires) on it. Talk about a space saver!!! Now since it is pretty tall, and some people are really short (like me ) you can take the 6" plate and put a floral arrangement on the top of it to make it look real pretty.
Anyone else with a multiple use for a cake stand?

Has anyone used those ceramic columns for cake stands? They come in a variety of sizes. I was wanting to use them for my nieces Sweet Sixteen in April. Or does anyone have an idea on a cake stand without purchasing one? Here is my plan I want to make 7 cakes. I want one at the back to be the tallest and the other 6 to go around the sides like stairs three on each side. I am going to make a castle out of foam/glitter/rhinestones and set that in front of the tallest cake and set a light on it. I was thinking about colums so that I can put ivy round it. I also plan on useing christmas twinkle lights on the table with tulle and ribbon. What do you think? or

As a caterer, I use all sorts of "things" for their not intended purpose. In my view, nothing is really used what's it's sold for. hahahahahaha

Alot of things were invented for one reason and made it big for another-not exactly for the intended! We are all only bound by our imagination in this world-things are too expensive to just use for 1 thing when there is a whole lot of can do's with them! Experiment, see what looks best and what works for you-be it paint cans under cloth, bricks behind things,,,it's up to you what you use and for what! Good luck and happy thoughts!

I have used my cake stands when I have family over for Christmas for appetizers etc. I have also used them when my children were Confirmed for their open house and when my son graduated from high school. I use the floating tier stand alot for these kinds of celebrations and also the acrylic cake stand from Sweet Celebrations. They are very versatile. I am planning on using the acrylic cupcake stand from Sweet Celebrations for her Graduation party in May. I thought it would be easier to make cupcakes up and serve them versus having to mess with sheet cakes. Did that for my son and so wanted something different for my daughter. If anyone out there has any ideas for graduation parties or good things to serve let me know!!

If it's going to be mainly kids-the teen set-I say things for nachos-that is a popular item-finger sandwiches-I know anything I've done with the older kids is quick items-they are so busy socializing that they don't like "fru-fru" foods-.

i had a friend that used the tiers and pillars from her wedding cake as a baby shower gift to a friend. she just took a piece of cardboard to make a circle (to look like the cake), used a few pastel colored recieving blankets to cover the cardboard and she and a couple other guests filled the center with rattles, bottles, stuffed animals ... that sort of thing. it was adorable and the mommy to be was thrilled!!
