Suggestion: Wedding cake discussion forum

I would like to see something just for wedding cake ideas, problems, pricing, etc. I am new to wedding cake stuff and this type of separate forum would be helpful!

MicheleH,
You could always start a Thread under 'Cake Decorating', just for Wedding Cakes and see how it takes off. You never know, it might catch on.

I think that everyone has it backwards.......

I think that the longer the happy marriage, the bigger and fancier the cake should be.  Getting married is easy, staying that way is hard work.  A 25th Anniversary cake should be as big as a volkswagon.

The more you treat all your events the same, the easier it is. For me, there's just not much I do differently. I treat each order the same, for the most part, especially pricing, whether it's a birthday cake, anniversary cake, or wedding. Wedding clients request tastings for the most part, and larger events as well, but other than that....cake is cake.

I agree with AZ, I do just as much work ( sometimes more ) for cakes that are for occasions other than a wedding.

I don't agree with a "wedding" price or "party" price.  I just have " a " price and if you want to eat bigger pieces of cake at a party then order more cake .

So that covers the pricing problem, as for ideas and inspiration . Listen to your brides and grooms , ask about their wedding, lives, ask them to bring colour samples, pictures of cakes they like.

If you are just starting out and don't have a large portfolio, a couple of nice cake magazines ( no more than three ) for the couple to look through can be helpful.

Incidently I use this method for most of my cakes not just wedding.
