I bet if you picked up the cake to leave w/it...she would have coughed up the money then...instead of being stuck w/no cake. THEN AFTER I had the cash in hand...I would have stuck MY hand right in the middle of the cake!!! icon_evil.gificon_biggrin.gif

1) Is it too late to call her and get the cake back? (good test to see if she ate it anyway....)

2) Print out ALL the comments here from fellow cakers stating HOW CUTE YOUR CAKE IS and send it along with the BILL.

ya know, I was just thinking. I wondered did she put on this act so she would not have to pay for the cake, or perhaps pay less than what you wanted for it. It is strange that she rushed you in the door and all of a sudden gets mad , throws the cake down and be nasty. She probably ate it after you had left. Strange, her husband did not do a thing about it either. icon_confused.gif

She was probably gearing up to throwing a fit over something before you got there. Like a naughty child who just wants to kick something, enters cake lady and WHAM!! You're the perfect target, she can lash out at you big time but doesn't have to live with it because well, you don't live there. If the dh didn't say or do anything he probably lives with her bad behavior, the poor schlep, and doesn't know what to do with her.

Again I have to say I understand your being too flustered to grab the cake before you got out. I would probably have done the same. Forget the miserable woman. I wouldn't even bother to talk to the florist about the incident. You said you've always gotten rave reviews. I'd leave it at that.
Now go bake another beautiful cake!

I agree with CarolAnn on this one - she ordered the smallest one ever, at the last minute, probably for someone she didn't want to honor. You got the brunt of her bad day and bad manners.

Don't remove it, don't sweat it, and keep going on - your cakes are very nice and she is just a mean person.

You were unfortunately the person supplying the cake that I speculate she was being "made" to order and didn't want to.

(now if I had a straping husband, I would send him to be my collection agency - collect the cash or the cake whichever one they had - but that's just me...)

Ohmygoodness is right in saying you need to invoice this "bag" and drop it in her postbox. You did her a service, now she needs to pay up for that.
You get some evil witches in this world.
Your cake is great and lots of people who say it is a good looking cake- can't be wrong!!!
She doesn't know the first thing about cake and the work that goes into making a beautiful cake.

There is nothing wrong with that cake. I love the bow and flowers, the color is terrific against the chocolate. If she thinks it is sooo easy to bake a cake and make it look beautiful (which you did) then why didn't she do it herself. If that ever happens to you again....don't forget to take the cake with you! Omg.. I haven't read all the posts but I am sooo sorry this happened! I think I would've done the same thing as you.. I would've been too stunned to really react. I wonder if she is the type of person that tries to get things for free and had planned on acting like this to begin with. Hmmm.

I definately think something should be said, either by telephone or letter. That is no way to treat someone, especially when you were doing her a favour.

I say go cake her house!!

Don't you dare take that cake off of your pictures! It is absolutely gorgeous, and that cow didn't deserve it in the first place. Her husband is a p*ssy and should have told the bee-otch to shut up and gotten out his wallet to pay you... with a BIG FAT TIP for putting up with someone else's PMS.

Was this woman raised by wolves? Even nearing 40, my mom would slap me if I treated anyone else like that!

Don't let that one person get you down and also stop beating up on yourself for taking the order. You really were trying to do her a favor and she was beyond nasty, you don't treat people like that. Even if you don't like the product. Which in this case, she had no reason to complain in the first place.

I wanted to update you all on this situation. I have seriously forgiven this woman even though well I shouldn't but hey ya gotta live with love in your heart it just takes to much out of ya to hate....anyways I got a phone call from my Florist friend who gives out my cards to potential customers. The husband of the woman did not know how to get a hold of me but went into the florist (which I am going to go give a big ole hug today) and left me a envelope. I had my friend open it because I really didn't want to READ a note from that woman. He had left me a check for 60.00 and a note explaining that their daughter, for whom the cake was for had sprung on them that she was pregnant. Unmarried and in college. Resulting from this news was his wifes uncalled for actions. He went on to explain this is not how his family acts and wishes to apologize for her actions knowing that it had upset me he could not say anything because he to was in shock. I accept his apology and feel sorry that she reacted to this kind of news in the way she did. I also feel sorry for the DD knowing that she isn't going to get the support that she needs at this time, and hoping in my heart she doesn't do anything drastic. I wish I DID know her just to console her. So with this said, I did get paid accordingly. I think the 60.00 is fair for what I have had to go through with these people.

So with that said...things do work out for the good in most cases.

(Karen I am living by that little story I posted in that topic icon_biggrin.gif , what hurts you must be written in sand so it can leave accordingly from your soul....and we must remember the great things that happen to us) I am however not wise LOL, I just live and learn icon_smile.gif

What an a** clown! I agree with the person whoes DH is an attorney. Take a pic of the cake and all of these posts to court with you! Then you might mention that it is in several people's FAVORITES! I have worked in the restraunt business for many years and there are always some dirt bags who complain (every time) just to get a free meal. Take up the "right to refuse service" motto with this clam. The cake is wonderful, don't let this phyco bring you down.

How sad! I'm glad the husband pulled through and ended up paying. I think that, in itself, speaks for the true value of this family. It's horrible that you ended up getting caught in the middle of this but at least it all worked out. Now, hopefully, they pull through for their DD just as well. If that would happen in my family, my normally sweet and bend-over-backwards' parents would probably go just as ballistic.

I'm happy for you that the woman's husband made the effort to pay you accordingly and to explain his wife's actions. No one should be treated the way that she treated you. She should have the guts to apologize to you herself, though.

I can certainly agree with you that it takes too much out of a person to spend your time hating another. I spent years eaten up with it, although in my case it was my father's murderer... but that man could care less if I hate him or not and it wasn't hurting him, it was hurting me.

By the way, your cake was beautiful. It's too bad the woman couldn't appreciate it.

Oh Yay!! Love a happy ending! That's awesome that he did that for you. It would've meant more if his wife could've written it.. but it's great he did that for you. And hopefully once the news of her DD pregnancy sinks in.. she will be supportive. That is exactly how my mom reacted when my sister (17 at the time..) said she was pregnant. But now all is good and he is the apple of his Nanny's eye. So hopefully with time she'll be the next to apologize.

If you were here in Louisiana, I'd drive to you just to give you a big ol' hug and tell you DO NOT blame yourself in anyway, DO NOT doubt your abilities and like I've always said when people are rude, crude, mean and ugly to you, "let it roll off you like water on a ducks back" ... Please don't take it to heart what this vicious woman had said to you... even if she was having a bad day, no one deserves to be treated in that manner.... the only thing I would have done differently than you, would have been to just look at her, reached over, picked up my cake and walked out without saying one word to her.... she'd of never had the benefit of having a free cake from me!! Chin up girlie!! You did an awesome job on your cake and did not in any way at all deserve the treatment received by this person!!

Well, this certainly explains why the woman would be upset but is no way to react. However, people react in different ways to traumatic situations.

I'm glad you have forgiven her. You are right, hate takes up too much time and energy. I'm also glad you got paid because you DEFINITELY deserved it!

Time to MOVE ON!

I had to come back and add this. I love this site. I take to heart most of the words expressed here. I can truly understand each and everyone of your views when you post them. I love that we each have the ability to know what the other is going through as far as caking is concerned. And we try to understand what each of us is going through when disaster strikes. That is what we need the most...the encourgement to move on no matter what. Not to give up our dreams and to live the best way we know how. And you all have given this to me a few times....the encourgement...helping me find my faith in my ability and the strength to pick myself up!!! Without your support I think a lot of us would be in trouble ...so if you would please take my appreciation for each and everyone of you to heart!! I truly mean it when I say " I LOVE MY CC FAMILY!!!"

Well, I figured there was some kind of upset going on there. I'm sure sorry for that family and I do feel for that mother, having that kind of news sprung on her. I wonder if it was the b-day girl. I'm glad to know you got paid. The man was good to make sure that you were taken care of.

Forgiving is the right thing to do. Unforgiveness doesn't usually hurt anyone but the one who won't forgive. Life is too short. You're doing it right!

LAST MINUTE CONSTITUTES THE PRICE OF THE CAKE PLUS $25.00. A $50.00 cake is now $75.00.
