Hi I would like to make a cake for my 30th birthday. It was featured on Food Nework's Celebration cakes. It's the black white and pink one. I feel pretty comfortable making it but I have never worked with fondant or with sculping a cake before. Do you think that I would be taking on too much or should I give it a try? http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_cc/episode/0,2495,FOOD_20077_44145,00.html
I also tried to add it as an attachment but I don't know if it worked or not.
Thanks so much.

That is a ton of work. It two professionals to put it together, and even then they had trouble.

I would sketch out a smaller similar version, minus the sculpting. Fondant is tricky if you have never worked with it. Take a look at this video for how to smooth the lower edge. (it looks easy, but it might not be)

I don't want to discourage your experimentation, but you will be MUCH happier and less stressed if you use something familiar. If you have time, try the fondant ahead of time. If you try it on a dummy or even a box first, you can re-use it.
