I've taken Wilton Courses 1 & 2 so far, and I've made about 5 cakes. This weekend I have to do a baby shower cake for a co-worker. Help! icon_surprised.gif I always panic whenever I have to do a new cake. I love decorating, but I'm not good at coming up with my own ideas yet. Since I'm so new at this wonderful hobby, I haven't made a variety of cakes so I would like to try something new. I've only done the white cake w/BC icing. I would maybe like to do an oreo filling on a 1/4 sheet cake. What flavor cake goes best with this filling? I think I'll also try a whipped icing. Any suggestions for cake flavors/fillings or decorating? I cannot use fruit fillings, as the mother-to-be has many allergies. And, I have not learned fondant yet.

I would think that a chocolate or vanilla cake would be really good with the oreo filling. You could also use a marble.

As for decorating - the possibilites are endless. I know the new Wilton yearbook has allot of cute ideas. Most of them are fondant, but I think you could use the idea with a buttercream.

If you are needing inspiration, just check out the baby shower cakes in the gallery here! (Under Celebration cakes) There are all different skill levels, ideas and techniques to draw from. Or, ask whoever is throwing the shower for a napkin or plate with the shower theme on it and go from there.
