I freeze my cake balls all the time and dip just before I need them. Can I do this with Oreo truffles? I think the cream cheese would be fine in the freezer but thought I should check.

The recipe says you can - I made some last weekend and popped them in the freezer.

Yes, you can freeze them.
I now use creamer instead of cream cheese, so I don't have to worry about refrigeration after they are dipped. This way I can put them in the same boxes are the rest of my cake balls.

They are still delicious! icon_biggrin.gif

I popped some in the freezer already dipped and they seemed fine even then! A little cracking occurered on the chocolate coating but not on very many.

Yes, you can freeze them, just be aware that the extreme temperature change from the fridge to the counter may cause the chocolate to crack. Try thawing them in the fridge so the temp. change is not so big.

Okay, can you tell me HOW you actually GET them to the freezer BEFORE they are consumed? LOL

Sweetsbycheryl: This is the recipe I use. Got it in my last Kraft Food Issue.

1 pkg Oreos- crush in food processor
1 8 oz. cream cheese, softened

Mix together thoroughly. Roll into balls. Refrigerate or freeze until holds shape. Dip.

Phyllis52: How much creamer do you use? That sounds like a GREAT alternative.

My family really loves the oreo truffles. We use the 17oz. pkg. If you're using DoubleStuff oreos, you'll need to use less cream cheese, or add about 6T. of oreo crumbs (in the grocery aisle that has the cracker crumbs for pie crust). The Mint Oreos made into truffles are great! Also, I've used vanilla sandwich cookies in place of oreos, and added the dessert cheesball mixes from Wind & Willow. (The Key Lime Piemix was awesome!).

Thanks everyone! I am in a bit over my head this Christmas season with orders and ANYTHING I can do in advance is helpful. I have 400 cakeballs in the freezer waiting to be dipped and I thought I would get the oreo truffles ready to dip too!

Hi Beth,

I use just enough creamer so they can be rolled into a ball. After you freeze them they get really hard, but then after defrosting they are just the right consistency.

Phyllis52, do you add the creamer into the oreos and cream cheese?? I've never made these and interested in trying them! They sound yummy!

Man, just when I think I'm done making cake balls for a while I go and find another idea I can't wait to try out.

Thanks! I'm getting ready to do approx 275 lbs. of candy this week with my cousin. It's a 17 yr old tradition and EVERY year we add a new treat. It sounds like it's going to be Oreo Truffles w/ Mocha Mint Creamer!!

Merry Christmas and thanks again for sharing!

Ohhhh sorry Phyliss!! I read that you use creamer instead of the cream cheese! Do you not have to refrigerate creamer?? I'm not a coffee person, so I know nothing about creamer!

I wasn't sure about the creamer either until I asked the question here at CC and I found out that most of the creamers don't need to be refrigerated. I use the French Vanilla in almost everything. I tried the mint and didn't get much flavor, so now I use mint extract. But I put the creamer in before I add any other liquid to make sure it's not too gooey.

I can't say exactly how much I put it - I don't measure. I just put in a little at a time until it binds and I could make balls of it. I'm making some tonight so I'll be back on line to let you know how much -this time I'll measure!

I also use candy melts to dip in. I bought that Wilton Melting Pot - it's great - got it with a 40% coupon.

I can't believe my life is now cake balls - just because I had a few crumbs left from a cake!

Yup, it's oreos and creamer to bind, then I freeze. Then dip! I don't refreeze my any of my cake balls, because sometimes they sweat or crack. If it's for family, that's fine, but for people who pay me, I want them to look almost perfect.

I made the oreo truffles last night and this is what I used:
20 oreos (put in food processor) and 4 1/2 - 5 tablespoons of creamer

Hope that helps!

How much would you sell a box of them for and how many are in a box?

Could I melt semisweet chips with a little crisco for dipping? would the crisco help the coating NOT to immediately 'melt' in your hands when eating? I'm not a fan of the candy melt flavor.
