I was just asked to do a cupcake wedding tree for a bride with 200 guests. I have never done one before and was hoping for some tips/advice. I will be making my own stand probably out of mdf. I looked at Antonia74s and love hers. I am meeting with the bride tomorrow for a consult and was hoping for some advice on the following:

1- prices per cupcake w/ just buttercream
2- do you fill these cupcakes with a filling?
3- what to charge for bc flowers, or royal, or fondant

Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

I can't help but will be keeping an eye on this thread. My niece will be getting married in 2009 and I get to make her cupcake wedding display. I can't wait.

I charge $2 for a buttercream iced cupcake
$2.50 with a standard filling
depending on the decoration depends on the price. If they want flower on each cupcake then depending on the flower and the medium used to make it depends on how long it will take me to make so I charge for my time.

Just did one of these yesterday with 240 cupcakes. $2.50 per standard sized cupcake, with filling, with a swirl of bc and a simple fondant cutout. A "real" gumpaste flower would be priced according to the complexity of the flower, but 50 cents for a simple shape, formed (like a single hydrangea blossom, for example) to $6 for a full blown rose the size of the top of the cupcake. That's plus the cupcake price.

I used the Tall Tier stand and clear plastic trays and lifts made from glass racks from the restaurant coverd with a regular table linen.

I don't charge for anything, so I won't be much help in most of your questions. I recently did buttercream flower cupcakes for a wedding shower (see my photos), and I was able to decorate about 80 cupcakes in maybe 1 1/2 hours? I think that included mixing and coloring the icing. I don't know if that helps you figure out your costs . . . and this may not be the type of flower you want to do, but it was a big hit! I think the cupcakes only took me a few hours to bake . . . my cupcakes bake for about 18 minutes per tray, and I was only putting in 1 tray at a time when I was baking at home (my oven doesn't like to do more than one at a time). I got about 24-30 cupcakes per batch of cake batter (depending on which recipe I use). I was doing about 1/4 cup per cupcake . . . I found that 1/3 was too big and made it hard to decorate with the flower I wanted, but that is better for the "overstuffed" cupcake look.

My wedding cake price is $3/serving and cupcakes would not be a penny less.

Yep, I price wedding cupcakes same as a slice of regular wedding cake... I mean, the darn things are more work anyway! And thats $6.50 each for me.

I do any flavor in cupcakes that I do in regular cake. To fill, I pull out a plug with a wilton plastic dowel, get the inside as best I can with simple syrup (scratch cakes), squirt mousse in, then replace the plug.
