I am verrry new to cookies. Your ideas and suggestions are really great. I really want a sugar cookies recipe that tastes good as well as looks good. I am going to try the one's you all have talked about.

Hope I don't ask too many questions -

Can you tell me what NFSC means?

What is Satin Ice?

How do you get cookies that are flat for decorating?

Thanks for all the tips, tricks, and recipes.

I have tried Karen's recipes and I really love using them. But I have not heard of Penny's - can you give her link so I can check it out. I love learning different recipes.

Well I have tried Karens cream cheese cutouts and her white chocolate rollouts. For the longest time I only used NFSC but wanted to expand my horizons with new recipes. I also tried Penny's.

I have to say that NFSC are still my favorites, but Karen's white chocolate rollouts and the cream cheese rollouts are rapidly becoming favorites. What I love about the white chocoate ones is I didn't need to chill them before I rolled them out. They are so delicious and smell heavenly while they are baking! My kitchen has never smelled better!

Penny's was good but used way too much vanilla, plus It HAD to be chilled to roll out as well as the others.

I can't wait to try karen's choc chip rollouts next!

They all taste good, but I really didn't think Penny's was exceptional to work with.

NFSC - No Fail Sugar Cookie

Satin Ice is fondant

To get cookies flat for decorating you just roll your cookie dough out very thin then cut with the cookie cutter.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Penny's cookie recipe! I am a nut for cookie bouquet type cookies and this is the best recipe I have found! Very easy to work with. Sets up nice and doesnt spread when baking. I don't always have cream on hand so that is the only bummer, but I love the flavor. I have not tried her icing recipe because I use Antonia74's. It is easy and yummy too! Good Luck!

Must agree 100% A friend made Penny's cookie recipe and I was blown away by it....so I tried it and LOVED it! I also paired them with Alice's Cookie Icing....which I could swear is a knock-off of Cheryl & Company's cookie icing....delicious!!!!!

I have not tried Karen's cookie recipe, but I do like Penny's better than the NFSC for sure. I like the texture of Penny's much better and my DH feels the same way. The Cream Cheese Cut Outs sound really good though.. might just have to make some to see.. icon_wink.gif .

Yup, love Penny's!!! Tastes great, works great! Just couldn't get any better for me! But a few q's about Karen's:

How's the choc chip rollout work? Does it spread at all?

Been looking for a choc chip rollout for awhile. I have one but am not too wild about the taste...

Thanks fellow CC'ers!

I tried the choco chip roll-out the other day. They are pretty tasty but seemed a bit salty for my taste.

They didn't spread but I wanted to decorate them like sugar cookies and they seemed a bit uneven (on the tops). That might've been my own fault for not rolling it out right....

Now my first experience with royal icing...that was a disaster! I couldn't seem to get the consistency right...it was spreading everywhere and when I added powdered sugar to thicken it, it was still too runny.
It was really humid out yesterday so that might've contributed but...
I swear, at the end of the night, I wanted to throw the cookies and icing against the wall and scream...

Oh well...I'll try again later
