I often finish a cake take a photo, post it here. Then start looking at the photo and seeing all the flaws that I didnt' see before and then go back and fix them. Does anyone else do that or am I just nuts.? I can't always see the flaws until I look at the photo, dont' know why but that is what it takes sometimes.

I only have three pictures uploaded for that very reason. Nothing looks good enough once it is photographed.

I have decided that from now on I will upload my pictures even if they aren't all that great because I saw some pictures on here that were ok and they gave me encouragement. I always think when I see the really cool stuff some of the people do on here that before they got to the amazing finished product they must have made some mistakes along the way. Its encouraging.

Keep in mind nobody is more critical of you than you and that most people (non cc'ers) have no idea what you are talking about. As far as they are concerned you are a master!

Honestly I looked at your stuff and I have no idea what you are talking about. What mistakes?

Glad I am not the only one! icon_wink.gif
Thank you mamas you are too nice. I agree with you though, you really need to post more. One your stuff is good!! Two if you feel it isn't it makes you feel better about something you doubt when you get the positive feedback. I often consider not sharing but then it always makes me feel better when I do. Just one nice comment makes it easier to feel confident giving it to the customer.

Susanscakebabies - Your cakes are great. I really like the way you did the firetruck with fondant! I do know what you mean about the pictures though. Pictures seem to magnify every little flaw. I'll post a picture and then I see how rough my icing really looks! It's very discouraging. But there definitely is no problem with your cakes. They look perfect.

I usually don't notice mistakes until I look at the pics I take afterward. I made a cake and posted the picture here. I was so proud of the cake, and only after it was posted did I see the spot where my finger must have gone into the icing, front and center! I wish I had taken the picture before I delivered the cake! icon_redface.gif

I always notice more mistakes in my photos too! I think the cake always looks better in person than in a photo (at least mine do anyways)

yep! definately. Finish a cake, hopefully remember to take a photo (as I've done a few cakes and forgotten to photo them). Put them in my album and on here, but when I look at them they never look as nice as the real thing.
Everyones elses cakes on here always look fantastic - sometimes we are our own worst critics!
cheers

I agree!

I did a cake recently that I thought was pretty cool. But looking at the photos now, it doesn't look nearly as great as I thought.

I know what the cake looked like in person, though, so I'm just going to use the photos to remind me of how it really looked!

Your cakes are great! Don't obsess--you'll go crazy.

Ditto everyone!!

I have my first 2 wedding cakes coming up this summer and I am so afraid that once the professional photographer takes pics of them... all the flaws will just come blarring out in the pic... which means that every time the couples look at their wedding pics for the rest of their lives they'll be thinking what a terrible job I did regardless of how it looked in person that day!!!! thumbsdown.gif

AAAHHHHH!!
