OK--same cake I've been asking about. I need to attach fondant shapes to lollipop sticks to stand up in/on the cake as signs. Will buttercream hold the fondant shape to the sticks (I'm drying the fondant so it's stiffer--hopefully overnight will be enough time to do so)? If not, other ideas? Thanks.

I find that fondant doesn't dry hard overnight. It does help if you use 50/50 fondant/gumpaste, or add tylose or gumtex to the fondant.

To attach a flat piece to a stick, you will need more than buttercream.

You could use another piece of fondant and sandwich them together

you could make the piece thicker and insert the stick

You could use royal icing for the attachment

good luck

Im with JoannB, If you want it to dry over night use 50/50 or add tylose to your fondant. I would just cut another piece the same size and sandwich them around the cook stick adding royal icing to make it all stick together.
