Everyone on here is so great, I'm hoping maybe someone can help me out!!

I have a request to do a birthday cake for a 1yr old boy. The theme will be 'beach'. His mom said he loves to go to the beach....loves the water. Anyway, she also said she likes the chocolate transfers and would like them on the cake. I'm having some difficulty trying to make a beach themed cake geared towards a boy. It is a small party...so the cake will be a 10 in square w/a 6 in smash cake.

So I made a practice cake today...which is below. I plan on doing the sports ball pan for the smash cake and making it look like a beach ball. Does this cake seem boy oriented?? I also had a very cute sand castle w/a pail, shovel, and starfish that was going to sit on the cake board along the front of the cake.....unfortunately...I didn't put the cake on a big enough cake board so I didn't have enough room for it (noted for next time) and I donated this cake to my son's daycare.

I thought about adding some crabs..but I don't want the cake to look cluttered.

So do you think this will work for a 'boy' birthday? Or if anyone has any other ideas...using the chocolate transfers....that would be great!!

TIA,
Christine

It looks great! Some other ideas I've seen is to use cocktail umbrellas or piping gel for water. Beach is pretty darn neutral to me, so I wouldn't be too concerned about making it gender specific. Sandra lee just made a beach cake for her sisters son's birthday, perhaps you could get some ideas over on food.com too! Good luck. icon_biggrin.gif

I think it looks nice. Face it, at 1 year old, you need to be more concerned with making Mom happy, not the little boy! LOL He won't care as long as it tastes good. I like the shovel and pail idea a little better than the beach towel since my 2 little ones will never sit on their towels. JMHO.

I think this is great. It will work for a boy. I use the CT often and really love it. You can make them way ahead of time and then all you do is just stick them on. Yours are great .... I love the sun....

Cute cake! I would add the pail, shovel, and etc. in place of the towel because of the age of the little boy. icon_smile.gif
