I was wondering where you order your ingredients like flours, milk, vanilla, eggs, etc. I am working on opening a bakery very soon and need to know where I can order the ingredients I need at a good cost. I checked out sysco but they don't give prices on their website or any info.
Thank you.

for the main bulk of our inventory we use Sysco. My rep is awesome and will special order items in for me all the time. There are a couple of things that I run to the store to get that I may not use a ton of and need smaller quantities to keep fresh.
I have been with them for almost 5 years and they have always been very helpful. Just contact them and tell them you are opening a business and need to have a pricelist put together they will custom make yours for you. Don't be afrais to ask for something they carry alcost everything or have access to it. Also our bransh has test kitchen for palce to recipe plan with Sysco product so that might be fun too.

Lucky you, that you can get a price list before licensing. Where I live, the Sysco will not distribute a price list without proof of business license and tax ID.

I will to see if I can get a price list from them. I haven't gotten licensed or anything yet since we haven't actually opened the bakery. We are looking for one and have a retailer suppose to be getting back with me soon. But I want to have all my ducks lined up before we open the store. Thank you.

Christy...I used Sysco for awhile, but then a GFS(Gordon Food Service) opened up and we use them. They are open to the public and you don't need a card or license. I'm not sure if you have one around you, but if you do it would be worth it to check it out.

Hey, littlecake, Happy belated birthday! Mine was the day before yours!

Sysco carries tons of stuff now, as I found out when I went through my brother's boss' catalog, but the quantities are enormous, so I couldn't use them.

Since you're in Florida , I will suggest a couple of suppliers I have had experience with there:

Puratos- they specialize in bakery supply, unlike Sysco

Best Brands- also has more bakery selection than Sysco

For Dairy products, I would try to find a local source- you will get much better service and pricing.

Classic Gourmet- based in Georgia, they have quality chocolates, fruit purees, miniature tart shells, etc. available through mail-order.

Good luck!

Sysco will send out a rep to your place and talk to you about your needs, then they put a " package" together for you.

Don't be afraid to call them, they will bring you a ton of brochures and cataloges!!

and those are always fun

Congrats on opening your place!!

us foods is a good one mentioned earlier, our rep is great. you can also try sam's if you think a fifty pound bag of powdered sugar, flour etc... is too much for you. the bakery i worked for before the place i am at now did sams for things like that because she and her workers couldn't lift alot of the bags of sugar, flour etc.
