I am making the Wilton "Guest of Honor" cake which includes a cookie. I made the cookie in a "practice run" tonight, and it broke in half. Can anyone suggest reasons why?

I tried that recipe once and it was just awful!!!! I ended up making a chocolate chocolate chip pan cookie, recipe is on the Nestle site. It turned out great. I am actually making this tomorrow. I would definitely suggest the chocolate chip cookie instead of that recipe.
