Chocolate Covered Cherries Recipe

I've gotten several requests for the recipe for my chocolate covered cherries, so I thought I'd just share it for anyone who may want it! I also posted it in the recipes section of this site, but I can't seem to make it show up, so I'm not sure what's going on there!! Anyway, here it is!
CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRIES
60 maraschino cherries w/stems
2 cups confectioners sugar
3 tablespoons butter, softened, no substitutes
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
¼ teaspoon salt
12 oz semisweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening
Pat dry cherries with paper towels; set aside. In small mixing bowl, combine sugar, butter, corn syrup, & salt. Mix well. Knead until smooth. Cover & refrigerate for 1 hour. Roll into ½ inch balls; flatten each into a 2-inch circle. Wrap each circle around a cherry & lightly roll in hands.
Place cherries w/stems up on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Cover loosely & refrigerate for 1 hour.
In a microwave or heavy saucepan, melt chocolate chips & shortening; stir until smooth. Take covered cherries out of the refrigerator. Holding onto the stem, dip each cherry into chocolate. Set on waxed paper. Refrigerate until hardened. Store in a covered container and refrigerate for 2 weeks before serving. Makes 5 dozen.
*My Mawmaw says that if the white part for the inside is too soft to work with, add more powdered sugar until you get the right consistency and it's not sticky. The hardest part for me was that the heat from my hands kept melting the sugar mixture, so I had to put it back in the fridge to stiffen up. Other than that, it was pretty easy! These are just divine if you can handle waiting for 2 weeks before digging in!!
My Grandma is from Georgia, and I asked her if they were easy to make and her response was, "Oh yeah, honey, they are REAL easy!" ...well, I've since come to realize that anytime she says something is real easy, she means it's real easy if you've been cooking for over 50 years and know what you're doing! If you've never made these before, they might make you cuss a few times, but they are SO worth it! Hope you guys enjoy!!!

Thanks for sharing. I love cherries and will try this one. I've tried doing this with plain Martha Washington candy dough and it was OK. I'll try this one next time.
How much salt do you add? All that's showing up for that is: � teaspoon salt
and also there's the "roll into ? inch balls".
Can you please specify? I really want to try this one.
