I just looked at my box of cornstarch. It has an allergy warning on it. It is manufactured in a facility that processes milk, wheat, and soybeans. Yikes! I did not know this. I will not be able to use this for anything my with youngest child. I just wanted to spread the info. Hopefully it will help someone.
My daughter (9 mon. old) is allergic to dairy on top of many environmental allergens. So now that she is eating solid foods, I have started reading all food labels. I'm just in awe at how many baby foods have milk and egg in them. Anyway that's just a lil history as to how I came about reading the cornstarch label. I wanted to warn about the cornstarch as I know many of you bake & decorate for the public.

Thanks for the warning. I just read the label of the C&H brand of powdered sugar and it contains cornstarch so be careful.

luckily most people that have milk allergies need to injest it and do not have a problem with it just being in the same plant.. BUT it is the new lableing law.. likely you will find it will not give your child any problems.

It would be horrible to have an allergy THAT bad as you could NEVER eat in out or use dishes that had ever had it on the dish.

Well I know that some ppl use cornstarch to dust for fondant. I don't use it. But I have heard some ppl who do. So just be sure to mention it to your customers who have dairy allergies. It could also be included in print on paperwork or contracts. So that way its a known fact when ordering a cake. And your customers won't have any surprises.

cornstarch makes my hands burn and itch if it's on me for more than 30 minutes, I don't have a problem ingesting it though, just have sensitive skin.

Thanks for the info. I made a cake for a little boy and another boy that came to the party was allergic to peanuts. I didn't think about adding almond flavoring until I was driving home and the light cake on and I made an emergency call to the Mother. I really should put a warning on my site telling people I use almond flavoring I guess.
