Hi everyone!

I was asked to make a baby shower cake to feed 120 people..I've NEVER made a cake to feed this many people before and I'm scared! I have no idea where to begin.. I know she wants a tiered cake, I've only done 2 tiers so not sure how to go about with a 3 tier. Anyways, I 'm really hoping someone can help me out! Also her theme is going to be "honey bee" from her crib bedding, I've attached a pic of it for you all to see and hopefully give me some ideas. Please help me!

So here are my questions:

What size cakes will be enough to feed 120 people?
Any idea on how to incorporate this bedding into the cake?

I will be greatly appreciative! Thanks so much! icon_smile.gif

I can't help you with sizes, because my family eats cake like they are starving LOL.....but I would say do a teir in each color. Then pipe on little bees and a buzzing line....you know....the dotted line things. All around the cakes....like the bees are flying willy nilly......not just a straight line on each tier. As for stacking you do a 3 like you would a two, support both the bottom and middle tier with dowels under the cake boards, then for added support drive a sharpened dowl through all three tiers. If you wanted you could make a little fondant bee hive on the top of it. =)

hi... as for the cake sizes ..some one else might have to help.. but it depends on the type of cake your wanting to make also...
the bedding... i just did a baby shower cake for my sister.. i havnt posted pics yet but with hers i just vertually copied the bed colours and made them the base colours of the cakes and added the pictures to it so in your case i would maybe make 3 tiers.. the bottom green ( same as quilt colour) middle white and top yellow.. boarder the three with the gimgham black and white check pattern and make bees to go around the sides of the cake ( the same as the quilt) and if there are other motifs on this quilt i would add them around the side too... top it off with either lots of bees on curled wires ( like the pic) or make a large bee out of fondant for the topper ... another alternatice would be to carve the top teir to look like a bee??
hope this helps to get the creative juiced flowing...

Ok im still new at this but i have done a few cake with three tiers i have not had any problems i just used a dense cake dowled each layer and then also used a center dowl through all three layors of cake into the cake board. you can use wiltons page http://www.wilton.com/cake/cakeprep/baking/times/index.cfm to figure out what size and shapes will work best to feed 120 people.
Does she know what sex the baby is? if she does something garden would be cute and an easy way to add the honeyy bees. if not just go with the colors three tiers bottom and top tier green middle yellow honey bees on it welcome baby maybe some grass at the base. and add the bee trails they are so darn cute (one bee trail could even say baby or the babys name). Good luck i am sure whatever you come up with will be great!

What about this cake by Deds? I had it as one of my favorites and when I saw the bedding...I got chills!!!!! This would be adorable and you could easily adapt it for larger round cakes...maybe 3 layers each tier if necessary! Good luck! Can't wait to see the pics!

i like freddyfl's idea of a small bee hive at the top i think that would tie it all together great! i also think black and white ginham ribbon like beesting said is a great idea.

Maybe a cake like the one in the pic.... but you'll need more to feed that many. I made a very easy beehive cake (not in my pics, still stuck in my camcorder). I baked the cake in a dome shaped bowl (pampered chef measuring/mixing bowl), used a tip 12 around the cake all the way up, cut out a door, and put some fondant bees on it. Maybe you could do a tiered cake with 2 or 3 (or more) beehives around it??

Ok I'm doing a baby shower cake for 130 Oct 7th, My theme is blocks though. Anyway, 3 tiers 14" serves 77 , 10" serves 39 and 6" serves 14
That's Wiltons measurements for the round cakes. HTH

I like the behive idea with the bees going around the hive.

I can't believe it . . . my DIL decorated my grandson's nursery in the same pattern! She had asked me to do the cake and left it up to me on what I did. The cake I did for her shower is in my photos.

I really like the pics the others had attached. Good luck whatever you decide! If you have already done 2 tiers, you should have no problem doing 3 tiers!! icon_wink.gif YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

If you look closely at the bottom you can see that the overlay has stars on it. You could do the bottom layer in a matching green with cut out white stars.

The bumper is chenille - so it has lines. Maybe the 2nd tier could be strips of slightly different colors of yellow fondant?

And for the 3rd white with the buzzing bee and curly-q lines drawn on the sides- or even green if you wanted a bit more color. You could also (or instead) have the buzzing bees on wires sticking out of the top.

No idea on sizes tho. gl!
