I'm working on trying to become legal next year here in PA.

According to the Dept of Ag, if you sell non-hazardous bakery items you just have to follow a short list of requirements (which I basically already follow) and you are fine after an inspection.

I called my local Zoning and the zoning itself is easy (they just want your fifty bucks) but they said I better check with the local dept of Health. The Dept of Ag also said I need to check with the local health dept.

So I call the local health dept and left a msg on the ladys machine and she never called back. So I looked online and found someone that looked like they could help and emailed them. He emails me like a day later with one-liners. He tells me that the Dept of Ag and the local twp will regulate me. I ask him who to contact for my local twp and he says (another one liner) to contact zoning.

Ok this is like going to Mom and asking and she says "Go ask your dad" and then dad says "Go ask your Mom"! Anyway so I wrote back the guy for Dept of Health a really nice note thanking him for his time and trying to verify if it is true that I can just go straight to the Dept of Ag and if so, is there a way I can have a paper stating that....hopefully I will hear back something helpful.

I was joking to my dh that if they don't care THAT much about what I'm doing, I might as well just sell cakes! haha.

The same thing happened with me for almost a week! I thought I would loose my mind if it already hadn't left a few years ago Just do your best and start documenting who you talk to and at what place do they work and keep it on file. If you don't get an answer,just keep this in your books and start baking! Print off that email too! That way if anything ever does happen you have all the proof of what they told you and that you thought you had the green light to do it. best of luck,melissa
