Hello all,

I have had a dream for the past 15+ years to open my own shop. I live in Alabama and cannot work from home. There is a place for rent in a very good location right off a busy highway and the rent is very reasonable. I am going to view it tomorrow and they say they have a full functioning kitchen there. There are several other stores around but no bakery. I want to have muffins and snack items so people that pass by can take goodies to work as well as cakes to go and some candy, cookies and cupcakes to. My mom said she will help out. My husband works for the city so that would be a plus to get to see him more during the day. I already do about 1 wedding a month (only for friends and family now) but hope to do about 2-3 a month. I work full time and will need to quit. I have quite a demand for my cakes now but will need to charge more when I get licensed. I already have my name picked out and will get a LLC also. I love baking and decorating and seeing the enjoyment on other's faces is worth it in the long run.

Please take a look at some of my cakes and give me your truthful feelings about this venture.

Thanks in advance for your replies and encouragement.

Sunday

I say go for it! icon_smile.gif If you have the money to do it and the location isn't that expencive go for it! You already have the client base to start and I'm sure family and friends would help out with additional orders to help get things going. You'll have your daily sales to look forward to as well. I think you have talent and if you have the chance to make it happen take it! Don't let it pass you by I know if I had an oppertunity like this I'd take it if I was good enough to do it. One day it is a dream to have my own shop/store but no time soon lol I'm not good enough for that yet. But you are and I think you should go for it! icon_smile.gif

Good luck and let us know how things go icon_smile.gif

Sunday,
I think you should RUN with this!! Your cakes are definitely up to par! You're smart to plan other items that can be purchased spontaneously. You've held onto your dream this long, you owe it to yourself to at least give it a try.

Keep us posted!

You've got a lot going for you, as far as business is concerned...what a great start!

I'm curious if you are figuring Sunday, if that is your name, into your business name?? You must have come up with something really clever!!

Would you share it!?!? Promise not to steal...I already have a business name. icon_smile.gif

Well the man already rented the building before I had the chance to look at it. I am disapointed but not down. I now have a plan and I can put a little back for the next opportunity. Alot of places that rent this spot goes out of business fast. So that might be a good sign for me that its not right spot.
