I was wondering if yall could take a look at my price list and tell me if I'm charging too much, not enough, or what.... There aren't many bakers where I live, one specialty bakery place that not many people know about and then of course the grocery stores.... our Walmart doesn't even have a bakery in it lol... So here's the link to my site and my price list if you could please let me know any advice... it'll be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance icon_smile.gif

I looked at your website last week! I thought your prices were VERY reasonable.......I don't know much about the area you live in....maybe someone on here is closer to you and could better gauge....tell ya what though......I'd be thrilled to get a half sheet for 27 bucks!

first of all, I love your web site.
now, I don't know your area, but your prices seem too low to me.
for instance, a plain cake at walmart is the same as your cake....and yours have to be much better than theres..... then your cookies, 45 cookies all different for 13 or 14 bucks? wouldn't you be loosing money on this? i make cookies too, and i know how much ingrediants cost....i wouldnt even bother with an order for a profit of almost nothing. a try of cookies that size needs to be closer to $30.00 thats still less than $1.00 per cookie but will make it worth your trouble for making all those cookies.
again, i don't know your area....but your almost giving your goodies away...
please reconsider your prices.
and good luck!

lol thanks I'm hoping someone closer in my area basically from Maryland can give me some insight I based my prices off the grocery store bakeries basically knocking a buck or two or more off depending on size and what it is.... thanks for taking a look icon_smile.gif

Do NOT knock a buck or two off!!!!!!
at least charge what the grocery stores are charging!!!!!!
yours will be a better quality and people will order from you because of quality, not because you are cheaper. CHARGE MORE.
thats my two cents, but I'm sure everyone here will tell you the same thing.

You are really underselling yourself IMO. Your products do not compare to what is sold in a grocery store bakery so why price it that way?

Your site looks great except for the prices! thumbs_up.gif

For regular cookies (chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar...) I charge $8 per dozen with a minimum of 2 dozen.

I lived in MD for a while, but I never sold cookies, I just gave them away. In our area we had no bakeries at all, just the grocery stores - so I would say if you can get business, charge whatever you need to.

whoah whoah whoah.......hold the horses....back it up girl.....back it up.........you KNOCKED a buck or two OFF????? No No no no no you need to multiply the grocery stores price at least by 2 and then knock a buck or two off........your cakes are custom....theirs are premade!! There is NO comparison!! Your product is of a much higher quality!! Jack up those prices!! You can not afford to undersell the grocery stores.....they get all their stuff wholesale...do you??

I just looked now, I don't know what your prices were before, but I think they are low!!! Its good to start out low if your are looking for customers but when you get a good base - up them slowly. You'll never make any money!

Love the website! Very cute and home made feeling!

Good luck!!!!!

I'm going to post my thoughts because I think I can help you. If you choose not to take my advice than I won't be upset but please do not feel insulted.

I looked at your "new" prices and they just don't make any sense. I think the smaller cakes should be a little pricier per serving than the large cakes but if you break down your pricing...

1/4 sheet is $2.42 per serving
1/2 sheet is $1.14 per serv
3/4 is .87
full is .79
9" is $4.23 per serving????
cookie is .40 each????

If you are in this to make money you have to proportion your prices. You also have to allow for more time consuming decorating and add to the base price. For example: my 10" round cakes are $35 and fruit filling is $5 more. If they want fondant accents it is $10 more and if they want it covered in fondant it is $15 more. My 1/2 sheet is $45 and the same upcharges apply. The price per serving is about 10% lower the more servings they need. Does this make sense? You can PM me with any questions if you like. And remember, this is just MY opinion....it's your business and you can do what you want...I just thought my 2cents might help you. Thanks, Michelle

here's some advice I got once...and It's what I use to come up with my prices. anyway, for each cake mix used, charge $20.00 so for my 1/2 sheet cake, I charge $20.00 and for my half sheet I use two mixes, so I charge $40.00 then 3/4 I would charge more.
so far I only have orders for 1/4 sheet cakes and 1/2 sheet cakes. I am okay with those prices, even though some would say they are too low.

I think your 1/4 sheet cake and your 1/2 sheet cakes are only $5.00 difference. although It cost you more than $5.00 to make the extra cake, when you add in the cost of the actual cake, and frosting, not to mention time.
so back to the drawing board.
just my 2 cents

I have a question for some you on fillings and prices: do you charge a flat rate for fillings or are different types of fillings different prices? Like a pudding as comapaired to a chocolate mousse filling. The mousse costs a lot more for me to make so does that go into a higher filling price catergory?
