Hi..First, i am new, and I put this in the wrong area i think the first time.

Anyway, Please help me...I did a cake yesterday. And it looked great. A purse cake. I took a 9x13 and cut in 3 then put buttercream between the layers. Iced w/buttercream. then the next day, I noticed the dowel popped out the top..so, I looked cause wasn't sure if cake moved....Then noticed a CRACK and a huge bubble...the icing looked like it just separated from the cake...when my friend called today, she said it didnt' make it to the party. And the icing on that side fell off the cake!!!

Please help me, this is the 3rd time this happened to me, Could it be the torting? or am I not pushing enough with the icing. It only seems to happen when I have a filling..YIkes...I am so scared now..and I am doin my first wedding cake in 2 weeks....I feel HORRIBLE as well..

Please PLEASE any suggestions I WOULD SOOOO APPRECIATE!!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH , NICOLE

This cake is really cute !!! I'm sorry I can't help you with the problem as I haven't done any purse cakes yet, but I hope someone can help you. I wonder if you need to use the madeira cake for this type of thing as it's really sturdy (??). Not sure, though.

Good luck. I think it looks great.

Hey Nichole, I think I would agree with Suzanne, maybe you need a denser cake that won't settle under the weight of the fondant. And/or maybe a stiffer buttercream for your fill...or a thinner layer of it? The cake looks awesome though. Dont' stop experimenting!
