It would be nice to see the improvement thru trying to replicate the first cake. I think I will try to make the first cake I made ;o)

Now, THAT'S a cool idea. I need to go dig out a picture of my first cake. Waaay before I got seriously interested in it. It was so bad!

This set shows an interesting progression:
I created this cake using a dummy. I lover decorating dummies. They are soooo well behaved.
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=49352
This was my first attempt at creating the "real" thing. It was a case of everything that could go wrong went wrong and kept on going.
http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=202783
Third time was a charm. I was soo happy with outcome. Went to snap a picture and the camera battery was dead. I had to run home to recharge the battery for 10 min before I could take the pix.

This is kinda funny to look back at where we started and to see what we can do today. I'll have to admit I'm still a "baby" when it comes to decorating. I haven't done as many cakes as I'd like to have, but we moved over the summer and live in a tiny house (temporary) and so I haven't made but two cakes since the move almost 2 months ago!

So, If I can figure this out...here's my first cake:

and somwhere is my latest cake (back to school)

Okay they are backwards...the first pic is my latest and the last pic is my most recent!! Very funny

I made this one nearly 9 years ago for my ds's first birthday. Notice the beautiful aluminum foil-covered board and the huge globs of blue icing next to the cake. I topped this one off, of course, with those nasty little stick-on candy letters. Yick! I had to pull out ds's scrapbook to get a pic. I noticed my scrapping skills were lacking back then too. icon_lol.gif

This is my most recent. Nothing too impressive but better than the first! lol

What a cool thread! Well technically speaking it's not my first since I've been baking for ages but this would probably be my first that started it all. This is what a bored woman does on her Christmas vacation icon_lol.gif The most recent one is a test of stenciling technique, which was rather fun and easy to do.

BTW, it's amazing how much better one gets with this hobby. I'm going strong on my 8th month!! Kudos to all!! thumbs_up.gif

Wow! What a fun topic! Awesome cakes by everyone and you can clearly see how much improvement everyone has made. I'm sorry, I don't know how to post a link for a picture, so I'll have to just attach them.
I started decorating as a hobby in June of 2005 and have been addicted ever since.
The chicken cake is the first and the pink and white cake is my youngest granddaughter's cake that I made this week-end.

This will be an easy one for me as I have only done 2 cakes so far....lol.

This was my first one. I made this for a horror movie convention back in June. I also have more close ups of each cake in my pictures. This cake made me realize just how hard cake decorating can be...lol.

Oh wow! This is too funny! It's amazing to see the progression huh! I'm a little embarrassed about my first cake! I had no idea how to smooth the icing! I was pretty pleased with my roses though! I made my first cake about 6 months ago. The most recent cake I did was for my husbands cousins wedding... what a difference six months can make! icon_smile.gif

I'm a newbie but I want to join the fun too! I've only been decorating since mid-June, but even in that short time you guys have taught me SO much!

This is my first cake I've ever "officially" decorated (with tips & bags) from the end of June

And this is from yesterday:

Great cakes. It's fun to look at everyone's progress. It's fun to look back at my old pictures and see how I've progressed. I have definitely decided modeling with fondant is what I like best. I'm enjoying looking at everyone's cakes, but my computer is running a little slow tonight and it's taking me forever to check them out!
