I just started the licensing paperwork and they asked for a name right then, I blurted out Melissa's Desserts, and i don't really like it. I need to change the name, can you all help me out? my name is Melissa Robin and I have 4 small kids. i'm in culinary school and my nicknames are Lissa, bird, shortstuff, and baby (I'm the youngest out of my parents kids) My business is going to be a part-time thing and will deal with baked goods. I have no idea what to name this business, you all have been creative with others figuring this out so I know you all can help me.

Here are a few I thought up. I just recently chose my business name after about 6 months of trying to think of one so I know it is really hard to choose one.

Melissa's Homemade Temptations
Melissa's Creative Sensations
Melissa's Sweet Sensations
Melissa's Baked Creations

Good Luck!

Do you want it to include your name or maybe just something whimsical? Do you want the name to imply baking? I have a picture of a wedding cake on my business cards and that is enough to spark interest.

I really like all your suggestions, I'm just not sure what I'm looking for in a name though, I like whimsical, to the point ones and funny. It's official I'm letting my CC buddies name my business because I can't decide. I'll go with what you all like because I like everyones ideas. thumbs_up.gif

I love Buttercream and dreams but I'm not doing just cakes, but also some breads, truffles, cookies and such. I eventualy want to expand to catering also down the road.....so I guess that's something I should have told you all also. I love, love, love Baby cakes but when I mentioned it to a group of people yesterday they all thought I was only doing baby cakes and nothing else (I think my friend and family are dense sometimes!) Right now I'm stuck between a few names:

Melissa's sweet sensations Robins Nest Bakery and
A dash of perfection (my DH thought of the last one so that's the only one he will consider) I really love these all.......which one stands out to you here on CC???? Thanks, Melissa

How about Sweet Melissa's. It was in an Allman Brothers song a long time ago. Gosh, I hope I'm not giving away my age by remembering!!!

well then it's final---"SWEET MELISSA'S" - that really sounds cool & when asked how you got the name, you can say my brother's name for me

guess I should have mentioned that I love my brother but we don't talk or see each other much, he only calls to beg for $$$ that I refuse to give him. There's a LOOOOOOOOOONG story behind this reason unfortunatly, but I still like the name.

Hi again,
So glad you went with Sweet Melissa's. And sorry about your brother. We all have our share of family stuff. But , who knows. maybe this is a good omen. My brother and I hadn't spoke in years, then one day he emailed me and we're now working on repairing the past and building the future. Just remember- you can only be taken advantage of it you allow it. It's good you say "no", a lesson I learned the hard way. But anyway, this isn't about family issues, this was to say The Best of Luck to you!

Thanks sweetgurl, I loved the name Sweet Melissa's but was unable to name it that because it was already taken icon_cry.gif So I asked about Robins Nest Bakery and my family loved it but I got odd looks whenever I said it to people icon_rolleyes.gif So my DH named my business for me and I decided to go with it when at school the Chef said she loved it (one hour before it had to be officially put on paper icon_wink.gif ) I'm officially known as
Busy Bee Bakery

As far as the family stuff, the poop hit the fan with my brother Chris yesterday and I don't think things will be good for awhile. Long story, just ended badly with pretty much the whole family saying we are done with him till he gets his life together. Seems the more we try to help him the worse he gets. I've been giving him tough love for years and now my everyone else in the family seems to be following suit.

So sorry to hear the name was taken. But you got a good second choice. Also sorry to hear about the family thing. People all have choices though and unfortunately they make the wrong ones many times. Still wishing you the best, and by the way no matter what the name, you will always be "Sweet Melissa!"

Thanks ya'll. The name Busy Bee Bakery is staring to grow on me, which I guess is a good thing since that's the legal name icon_lol.gif The name Melissa means Honeybee so I guess it still kind of works on that whole word play and names thing. That and I'm always really busy with some project icon_razz.gif Thanks again for the kind words, Melissa icon_biggrin.gif

Hi , it's me again. ( hope you're not rolling your eyes LOL!) What you are doing is great. My family owned businesses all my life, that is until my parents passed several years ago. I saw them start with literally nothing and build them up which enabled me and my siblings to live quite comfortably. Pretty good for a man that didn't finish high school. So just follow your instincts, don't listen to too many people ( sometimes they mean well, but-------------) and don't be afraid to take chances. No guts, no glory. I'll keep you in my prayers and maybe next time you hear someone humming "Sweet Melissa" it'll be me dropping in to check out your thriving business.
