Thank you all for so many wonderful welcomes and comments on my photos. It's very encouraging. Today I did my first buttercream transfer and will post a pic tomorrow. I'm teaching a class to paint frogs on mailboxes so the transfer is the frog pattern and I'm going to give it to one of my students.
I became a certified onestroke instructor in 2003 and taught at Michaels for 2 years. I learned painting on cakes at one of our continuing education classes last year.
I make fondant plaques about 1/8" thick in the size of the cake top usually. For painting I start with NEW brushes that will only be used for food. The colors I use are the Americolor gels along with the bright white as the medium. Most strokes are double loaded - dipping into each color and blending. Really you could paint anyway you want to but you have to be careful not to over stroke too much. There's some basic instruction at www.cookiepainting.com but I don't get supplies through that. My local cake shop carries the colors. The free project has a guide for painting the strokes too.
Hope that helps a little. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing! I wish I could paint .. I have a zero talent level when it comes to that lol .. I can draw a good stick man though!
