I keep reading how a recipe for sugar cookies is best if 1/2 butter 1/2 shortening. The recipe I have spreads too much.

can anyone direct me to a decent recipe for my christmas cookies this year? I am a cake baker, not a cookie baker, so I need resting times and oven temps, etc.

Thanks!

I tried the NFSC recipe from this site yesterday, and they are really good, and don't spread. I just followed antonia's cookie directions.

I saw that recipe and its all butter..so it doesn't spread? Also, do you really need to preheat for a half hour? My oven is fully heated in 6 minutes. I will try them though...just curious why preheat for a half hour..
