Has anyone ever thought about giving or mailing a decorated Christmas Cookie in lieu of a Christmas Card. It just sounds like such a cute idea for extra special people in our lives.
I've done this before although not for Christmas. Whenever someone in the family is pregnant, or getting married, or graduating (something along those lines) I'll send 3 cookies, 2 decorated in the theme, and one with a message on it like "Congrats!" or "Best of Luck!". I'm sure your family would love it because it's baked with love!
Oh my gosh Flowerpot..that sounds like an excellent idea! I love it. I have only done one set of cookies and they came out okay (I guess) but now I have an incentive to practice to perfect them! Wonderful idea! Thanks for sharing
Nalyjuan--Oh your welcome...I'm just new at cookie decorating thanks to CC. I've been decorating cakes for years, but never thought about cookies--now I'm hooked. It's so much fun to be creative!
What a great idea! And no trees have to die to make the paper to make the cards that everyone throws out after the holidays!!!
What a great idea... I may have to steal it ... but how would you ship them??
Bubble wrap envelopes. Just make sure they will fit snug, but not too tight. No idea where to get cutters though.
My husband and I were planning his 50th birthday party and decided to send a cookie (in his likeness) along with the invitation. He was doing all the cooking so the cookie was a chef. Everyone who received a cookie invitation was so surprised. They loved the idea. Each cookie was bubblewrapped and then put in a mailing box typically used for sending VHS tapes. Every cookie arrived perfectly.
I am thinking of baking some cookies (not sure what design yet) for Christmas, taking a picture, and making our own Christmas cards. Kind of like the type of cards people send with pictures of their families. At least this way you don't have the expense of the boxes.
This really is a great idea... I'm trying to thing of where I can find/buy a large enough cutter... Thanks for the idea.
missinaction- you can find lots of large cookie cutters at cookiecutters.com at great prices. I just place my first order and can hardly wait for it's arrival.
This is a great idea for my ladies cookie decorating party I'm having for the first time this year.
Imagine getting an invitation with a cookie!
I've been trying to think of an unforgettable invitation and this certainly fills the bill.....
Hey that sounds like a great idea!!! How about packing them in popcorn!!! Its a natural cushion for the cookies without using styrofoam. And the post office approves!
I'm planning on doing my first cookie exchange this year.
How awesome would it be to send a cookie with the invite!!!
You guys are awesome! Thanks for the idea!!!
Gosh is this fun or what? Just thinking about making cookies for Christmas Cards get's me excited. I can't wait to see what people think when they receive one. I'm actually thinking if the family has children, making one for each family member with their name on it. Is there nothing better than seeing a childs eyes light up when they receive a small gift?
There used to be an amazing cookie company that did cards. I can't seem to find the site right now, but for inspiration...here is a company that is doing Halloween cookie cards:

Hey guys - let's remember to post pictures of our Christmas card cookies. How about it? I may need one of you to remind me as I'm at that age! LOL
So bubble envelopes you think would be the best way?
I do not want to pay an arm and a leg shipping. I shipped 6 sugar cookes as part of an exchange and the postage was 6.00!!!!!! I want to make it still be able to be classified as a letter (we have a certain thickness up here in Canada it can be)

I just shipped 24 cookies to New York and postage by Purolator 1 day service was $68.30....AND the service took 3 days to clear customs!
Flowerpot, I love this idea. I may have to join in with this one as well. I just bought a 4 or 5 in square cookie cutter. Decorating it with a holiday message would put a smile on all of my family's faces. I can't wait to practice this technique. I am making halloween and christmas cookies as I am typing this just for practice. Too bad I didn't read this post first.
At least I'll have another excuse to make more cookies
By the way, I purchased some cookie cutters from cookiecutters.com and I love them. I just received them this week. You will truly enjoy them.

It was also on sugarcrafts site... Do you all think this would work... I know it's supposed to be for chocolate but, I was thinking of putting teh cookie inside instead...
AgentCakeBaker--so glad your joining in on the fun. I just finished 2 dozen 4 inch pumpkin and ghosts . I didn't decorate them yet, just stuck them in the freezer. I'll use these for the grandkids to decorate this weekend. I can't believe in all these years, I've never seen cookie bouquets before--boy where have I been? lol lol Anyway, can't wait to start my Christmas Cards...not just sure how many I'll make yet, but the possibilities are endless. Have a great day!
Missnnaction- I went to that site and nothing came up. Can you send it to me again? Flowerpot
McMama--great idea--I will definitely take pics of mine, but can't guarantee they will be anything like some of these talented ladies.
Flowerpot, Here it is.. I included sugarcrafts too just in case...
