What is the best site for them?? I have been looking allll morning!
I know I saw a site once where they had them in like little bags! They weren't in the bottles like everyone else shows.

Anyone know of smaller quantities and a great site PLEASE let me know! I need to order them today!

OMG! It was soooo easy!

Just roll out a piece of fondant and make sure it's all the same thickness. Then you take all your different size round tips and make cutouts. Do a whole bunch(there is a website but, it was in another thread) You don't even have to take them out of the tip just keep pushing it into the fondant and let them come out the top. Then you roll these little disks onto one of the flower sponges. The thicker one...roll them into a ball. Let these dry for a little bit. Put all the ones you've made into a really small container with some luster dust and shake them up. The sooner you do these when they are a little wet the more luster dust will attach to them. Make sure you do a whole bunch. They don't look exactly like the dragees but, I think they're better! I didn't know people would be interested. I will post the ones that I made!

What steponmi is describing is how to make pearls. While you can color them any color and even to look like dragees they are different. Dragees are hard like jawbreakers, and sold everywhere. The pearl technique is great and you can make them in advance any to any size you need.

For next time, if you want real dragees, try eBay, I have a girl who I buy them from, they are super cheap and she will sell you as much as you want or as little as you want, she has excellent customer service and fast shipping. She also sells tons of cakes and cookie goodies! HTH No CA residents though, sorry.

I had read somewhere on here months ago that you couldn't get dragees in CA. Can anyone tell me the reasoning behind this?

it's because of a lawsuit. You can get them in California, at least I do. They are labeled "for decorative purposes only" No one will ship them into CA though, so just keep looking they are out there.

It's called C&C Candies

Just and FYI, last time I ordered gold dragees they were not the "best" looking ones but they were super cheap! The silver ones are awesome They said they were getting a new shipment in, hopefully they are a little better.

It is ILLEGAL to SELL dragees in CA and many other states! If whoever you get them from ever gets caught they can be in BIG legal trouble.

Darlene,

Maybe you could be like Colette Peters and roll them uneven on purpose?

So, has someone in California died from dragee ingestion or what?
My dh is skeptical enough that these are edible!

I tried to order some the other day from a shop I hadn't dealt with before. They had none, and said they were hard to get now, because of new laws in the states. It seems (he told me) that someone choked on one and the law-suites were mounting up. I have no idea is this is true or not...just what I heard. I can still buy them at bulk barn here in Ontario.

Darcat, it's not perfect, but I've always had that same problem and was told to roll it out as much as I can, then finish it off using a semi-stiff piece of acetate or plastic (I use a smooth report cover).
It's certainly a better look than I can usually manage ! icon_confused.gificon_redface.gificon_cry.gif

That's true. I read a story about this one-man lawsuit machine who started this - he's basically a consumer safety advocate and since the silver in dragees is not supposed to be eaten (I forget why, you could probably find tons of info if you google it), he basically singlehandedly got them off the market in our state. The "for decorative purposes" part didn't help because his point was, regardless of the label, come on, put 16 dragees on a cupcake and people aren't gonna eat them?

So if you have found them somewhere in CA I would advise you to STOCK UP - seriously!! I saw them in a cake shop once and I wanted to warn the shopkeeper that she might want to not display them so blatantly, it but I was afraid she'd "shoot the messenger" and kick me out of her store LOL.

edited to add a link to a news story about this, I just couldn't resist looking it up http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/12/23/MNGS03SUEM1.DTL

As far as California is concerned, I've been told by multiple sources that it is not illegal or buy, sell, or use them here. What has happened is that an attorney decided they weren't safe and threatened to sue a number of shopkeepers who were selling them. Rather than take a chance of having to deal with the hassle of being sued, people stopped selling them and the myth of them being illegal came to be. You can read about this here:

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/12/23/MNGS03SUEM1.DTL

I spoke to Chef Rubber at Cake Camp last year in Las Vegas, and he said he would be perfectly happy to ship to me in California. I bought some of his there and they have worked very well for me. I will be ordering more soon. He has silver, gold, and multicolored that includes blue and pink.

I mistakenly ordered a box of the 8 mm (large) gold dragees. That looks like a lifetime supply. If someone wants gold, I'd be happy to sell some.

Ohh, to be honest with you, I don't know if you carries more sizes, the ones I always buy are the #5 (I think icon_confused.gif ) but maybe send her an e-mail through ebay and ask her? HTH.

We often come accross items (not related to food) that have a label that states "known in the state of California to cause cancer", we crack up laughing every time we see it. I have eaten dragees all my life & never heard of anyone having a problem, so far as I am concerned they are just great & I will go on using them & eating them.
