We finally made it!! I just saw on another local decorators website a version of one of our original wedding cake designs. icon_biggrin.gif

I know that would upset some people but I am truly ecstatic. In my head that means that we have finally arrived!!! icon_biggrin.gif

What is that saying? "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!"

You have many, many beautiful designs, so expect more 'imitation' to come!

PieceofcakeAZ I have just looked at your website and the cakes are just beautiful. Your are obviously very professional. I think you have already made it without someone copying a design. Well done. Just a query if you don't mind my asking Cake OW4 I see you have orchids in the glass containers. Are they real and do they not get condensation inside the container? I tried that with roses once but they steamed up. Very interested to know the answer. Thanks Briarview.

Briarview-

Those were actually silk, but we have done that setup with real flowers quite a ew times and it seems 50/50 whether we get condensation or not. When there is some it's usually not too bad.

icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif You wouldn't have many to chose from, only about a dozen of the designs on our web page are truly our orginal designs... but we are always working on more for you to snag. icon_wink.gif

Congratulations!!! I look at your website often for inspiration - more along the lines of "sigh, maybe someday I'll be good enough to even attempt designs like this, sigh." (Do you hear the violin music playing in the background?? icon_wink.gif

Congrats - definitely an honor well deserved thumbs_up.gif

If I were to say "slow" I would be understating it drastically. I will never ever turn a non commercial kitchen space into a commercial kitchen. (I wrote that on the blackboard 100 times last night). icon_wink.gif

Ancient Chinese secret. icon_wink.gif Wait... is styrofoam ancient or Chinese? Damn. I guess it's not so ancient, it's no so Chinese, and it's no longer a secret. That piece was made of styrofoam covered in fondant. icon_biggrin.gif

It's always nice to be recognized, or imitated...but....an imitation is NEVER as good as the original...LOL

I'm so happy to hear that you are flattered, THAT is truly a CLASS act!

Good things will happen for you as you know ( or maybe don't know...) Karma/fate rewards everyone...good or bad..tee hee.

I went to your website and let me tell you, I'm happy to see that you're so busy with your wedding cakes..hopefuly you will get enough staff to go back to doing the other cakes! LOVED the BRATZ hanger thingie!

If you tell me how you did that, well...I could...."STEAL"..I mean...IMITATE..I mean ..."ADAPT"..it.. icon_razz.gif

the talent on this site never ceases to amaze me- your cakes and your site are fantastic!! I would imagine that alot of people would like to reproduce your cakes if they could. I can also tell that you have a great sense of humor and that will keep people coming to your business instead of a competitor's! People want to work with someone who is fun and personable- so when do you head to the food network for your own show?

I don't think you needed a local decorator to let you know..........those cakes are amazing!!!! I mean you should have felt like you "arrived" the first time television station or magazine wanted to use a photo.......man, you have some TALENT!!! Oh by the way, what kind of chocolate do you use for your drizzled cakes (looks so rich and delicious) and also.....how do you keep your ribbons perfectly smooth ( like on the white cake with the thin black ribbons all around it) You're definitely professional!!! I would order a wedding cake from ya that's for sure!!

Thanks for all of your great comments!! It should be noted that I am the "no talent hack of the family icon_biggrin.gif, my wife is the one who can make things "pretty". I don't do "pretty" so well. If it's a mountain climbing wedding cake or something unpretty, I'm the guy. icon_biggrin.gif Mostly I figure out the "how" and the "what" and she does the details.

I am just skilled enough to make sure if she goes ill, everybody gets a wedding cake that week... they just won't be as pretty... hell they may not be pretty at all. icon_wink.gif

Damn my man hands!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

If we were to do one of the drizzled cakes today we would just use a basic ganache, but when we did the ones on the web site we used melted Betty Crocker canned frosting. icon_biggrin.gif If you try it and you get air bubbles on top, use a blow torch, they come right out. icon_biggrin.gif

It seems that you can't be a part of this business without a strong sense of humor... and it appears, the sicker the better. I am figuring the sense of humor is going to come in handy when I drop my first wedding cake on a dance floor at some reception site. While the bride cries her eyes out, I will be flawlessly delivering a well rehearsed monologue to ease the tension. icon_wink.gificon_biggrin.gif
