Started the day out awful, thought I had cocoa to make Chocolate BC because container was still there..guess kids r to lazy to throw it in the garbage 5 feet away...went to go get more, car wouldnt start....icon_sad.gif Find a perfect recipe that suits me so I could make the icing...with chocolate chips...make it, it tastes good...ice cake....umm not doing so well here...there are CHUNKS of chocolate in the icing...I know I melted all of the chips but...must have seized...crying in my tea..I decided to just keep going...(by the way cut my finger on coupler trying to change it). Then it gets worse and worse...well heres the result....crying I decorate this cake...Guess I will be up all night tonight trying to get something to look half way decent...Just when I thought I might be getting better...I get worse....what a ugly cake...everything about it is wrong...oh well....I just know you pros will be thinking..GEEZ don't quit your day job!!! LOL but actually I don't have a day job..see how depressing it is for me right now..??? icon_cry.gif Don't fret..this cake is staying here..hubby can eat it. I have to believe that even experienced bakers have REALLY REALLY bad days. But right now I hardly think ya have my bad luck

Relax relax relax! It's ok!
I'm no pro or anything, but I find that cakes come out better when you take the pressure off yourself to "create the perfect cake". Set out to do a great cake and learn along the way.

Now you have some comfort food! LOL

Keep trying. Stay relaxed. Cake decorating is FUN!

I know what you're going through!......sometimes being a decorator just plain sucks!! You know what?....everyone has good days & bad days, whether we're doctors or carpenters or cake decorators. I will admit, I did a cake a couple of weeks ago that I wasn't happy with, but I was so annoyed at all of the things that went wrong with it, that I was done. Just done with that cake, and I didn't care! Sometimes they just don't work out......personally, I think yours looks yummy! Try not to stress out about it too much, you win some & you lose some, every cake can't be perfect! icon_smile.gif

Ha ha. Just about every cake I do for someone has me in frantic tears. I usually fall in bed at 2 a.m. complaining to my husband about what a fool I was to take on the latest project. Sometimes I think why do this to myself. but I LOVE this hobby. I learn something new and important after every cake. So, keep at it. You'll be a pro in no time and your family and friends will love eating your mistakes. Hope things go better for you tomorrow. icon_smile.gif

It's nice to wind down and vent a little I know everybody gets tired of hearing all the negative but ya know...Since I Started coming here to CC. I don't feel so bad..I kinda calm down..now in about 2 hours after hubby eats and goes to bed I will try again...Whip up some more cakes, mix more bc and have at it...bedtime I am sure will be 2 or a little later..but I will be happy when I know the cake is at least as good as I think I can manage at this stage of my experience. And by the way..I haven't charged a penny for my cakes..every one of them are practice cakes...and will be till I am good enough. Thanks CC Friends for your kind words!!!

your cake looks very good dont be so hard on yourself. I wanted to try some different techniques this week so I baked 3 small 6 in cakes yikes thats hard to decorate lol I did all vanilla with bc filling one had choc bc with tootsie role rose came out great except when I brought it to my daughters the cake cover squished my rose icon_cry.gif the other one was supposed to be lilac bc well its purple and my icicn was too soft so drop flowers looked wilted. icon_cry.gif The third I just did some choc bc piping. It was good practice but boy was I disappointed with the last 2 but as they say "practice makes perfect" lol but I found the little cakes harder to decorate than a big cake thats for sure lol

Wow wgoat5, you certainly prove the adage:

When the going gets tough, the tough get going!

There'll be no stopping you with your attitude and talent.

Now for something completely different.

I'd be happy to say I made that cake as I have none, that's right, not one in my gallery. Or, I'd be happy to eat that cake, as it looks pretty good to me - please just shove it through the monitor.

Some days are just bad. I had a lady order a pound cake the other day, and I have made this recipe a bunch, but for some reason it just was not baking right. I remade this stupid cake 4 times! Needless to say I did not make much off of this order. When my day starts like that I just have to keep going and hope that something will come out right. Just some of the pains of the business.

Hey, that cake doesn't look bad! I'd like to have a big slice with a hot cup of coffee! Hey, we all have those days, and most of the time we think it's worse than it really is. Cheer up and eat cake!!! I wish I could share it with you.

I have to agree with the other CC folks, your cake looks delicious and is very prettily decorated as well! I have yet to bake one (not that I've baked/decorated very many) that turned out the way I envisioned or hoped that it would. Keep going, you are doing fine work!

Darcat, I also agree with you, those little cakes are really difficult to decorate. I got the mini cake pans, they were so cute, but take as much time or more than a regular cake. Janice

It is very hard to decorate the 6 inch cakes. But I thought since I was "practicing they would be less work then the bigger ones...but nope...found out the hard way. Thanks for your encouragement CC friends. Today is a different day. Actually had a good cake day I think anyways. Got a cake done for School Bus Driver Appreciation week today! And what fun it was to!

I know how you are feeling . . . i posted the following thread a while back with my string of cake decorating disasters (which should be good for a laugh). http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-38719-smoke.html Although things have been better, it does seem like every time I do a cake, there is still some major problem. I just made 2 cakes last weekend for my mom's birthday and brother's anniversary . . . . all went great, except for the fact I was in a hurry the night I was baking, so I baked one of the cakes, decided to run out to a friend's house before dumping the cake onto my cooling rack. When i returned, the cake was glued to the cake pan. Had to scrape it out (which i'm now saving to make cake balls when I have some time), and re-bake the whole darn thing! Everything else went okay. But for a while I was having problems with the chocolate seizing in my chocolate cakes, and as you will read in my post I managed to set my oven on fire. I added an extra cup of flour to one of my cakes because i wasn't paying attention, and I doubled the baking powder in another cake . . . . yup, a walking disaster! I've started to play the game of "guess the disaster" and how many, and it's been far more entertaining. My fiance and I rank the disasters now in order of severity. The fire at 2 in the morning still "takes the cake."

I just tried fondant on bundt cakes to make a pumpkin. Then I made a chocolate stem to put on it. Was looking at it thinking hmmmmm 1st time not to bad. My 16 yr old DD comes down and says----why do you have a penis on top of a pumpkin? This was for a cake walk at church.
Needless to say, it didn't go!!!! lol. But see, everyone had bad days with cakes. Just cuss the darned thing out and move on!!!! Tomorrow will be better!!! Praying for you a much better day!!!!
