I bought a roll of the non slip stuff from Go Lo, not as thick though as some I have here. but in a pinch it'll do.
Delicate-lee > I hope you went to the national seminar that was in Perth just recently, next time its in Sydney so I have heard. ! I will have to work harder at getting better to be able to enter that i'm afraid.
and Sparklepop > I am also looking forward to getting the challenge schedual as well. ! and since I have to drive 6 hours to deliver, I should make it more than one entry eh, lol.
not to sure though about the easter show for next year, time will tell. !

Thank you!

I would like to take lessons just so I can see what the right consistency to mix my buttercream and royal icing to. I have found Cake Central to be so helpful for tutorials, ideas and recipes.

I am attempting a pirate ship cake this week, for my little one's 1st birthday. The pirate face cake I made for my first attempt is going to be covered with buttercream instead, so I can give it to my son as a smash cake. The pirate ship cake will be for serving to the guests. We're having 40ppl, and I have no idea how big to make the cake.

Ohh and have I mentioned I have NEVER sculpted/carved a cake before and I am petrified that it is all going to collapse into a big mess.

Hubby is very encouraging of my new hobby, but he said it is very typical of me to want to 'fly' before I learn how to walk icon_wink.gif

The satisfaction of seeing my cake turn out relatively well for someone just starting out gives me so much satisfaction, which is why I would like to learn more to perfect my skills.

It's awesome seeing so many aussies here!

They are very expensive, but they are wonderful about sharing the knowledge and giving advice on all cake-decorating questions!

i'm keen on drawing something up to find out where everyone is. I know we have all mentioned, but it would be great to know who is exactly from where.
I'd love to catch up with all the melbourne gals! Who's up for a meetup in a few weeks?

Sparkletop, what a coincidence! Which cake was yours? I took quite a few photos so I will go back and have a look.

Yes! I think I have a photo. Was the top tier mounted on a wine glass? That is a lovely cake, congratulations! The sprays are so well wired. I find wiring flowers together a pain. Did you find the judges comments a little weird? It was the first comp I'd entered so I don't know if they are usually like that. I don't know if I will enter Challenge next year, I was never so exhausted as I was on the night before the last Challenge, I got zero sleep the night before.

Yup, thanks, that sounds like my cake. Wiring flowers is a pain especially when you know the judges are going to look at it so closely. The judges comments are always interesting, some you already know they will remark on and some you think "what the?" I know how you feel redred by the time I put that cake in Challenge I was soo over it. I was sick of looking at it and felt a great relief that it was over. When I bought it home I left it in the box and I only bought it out a couple of times, once for a local show.
I would like to encourage you to enter Challenge again as you know more this time. That was the 2nd time I'd entered and I feel each time I learn more and more. Also I usually spend a day down there as a rep of the Guild so if you go we might get to meet, now that would be fun.

I would definitely go to see the cakes at Challenge even if I didn't enter, so we could meet in any case, that would indeed be fun! I agree that it was a huge learning experience, not only from making my entry but from looking at all the other cakes. I'll see if I get inspired by the schedule.

Lyn and Redred, I'm so up for that too, of course, my plan is to still see you on the 10th Lyn, or while gingerkitten is busy setting up a meeting for the Melbourne folks maybe we should look at setting up a Sydney meet, although October's out for me, I have two weddings and a huge order inbetween, but after the 19th (Oct), I'm good to go!

Well I know September next year (Challenge) is a long way a way but that would would be ideal cause we would probably get quite a few country people as well.
Now would most likely be tricky as everyone is busy, tis the season to be busy LOL have to wait till after the "wedding season".

Hi HOney_Cakes,

It is a cake competition organised by the Cake decorators Guild of NSW and is held every second year, at the Stitches and Craft Show at Rosehill. It is on again next year.

Hi all - recognise a few of you from a few threads I have read and posted

REALLY great to know there are some Aussies here that we can bounce our ideas off without "offending" - our humour is REALLY unique isn't it? OR is it just me that is WEIRD?? @#$#$#@

I'm at Kurrajong just out of Sydney

Just finished a GROSS toilet cake for my nephew's 21st - BAD TASTE theme - complete with the pile of Playboy mags. Definately won't be posting that one in the galleries!!

All his friends said - EW!! YUK!! but then, HOW COOL!!
