That's a good idea. Or, as Duff of Ace of Cakes does, hire artists. Check your local community college/adult school for culinary/baking/artists. Do you know any local bakeries who have part-time helpers who are looking for more hours? How about your ex-classmates from cake classes? Maybe a CC member in your area?

I think that would be a good starting point. I think that a "good" instructor would be interested in the work or would suggest an excellent student. I would interview though. Ask for her portfolio and ask her to show you a cake she has done. I'm interested but I'm in Michigan.

I'd help, but Plano is a long way away. I would just post a thread here. I bet you there are people on here close to you that might jump at the chance. I know I would!

I never took a class, so i don't know anyone from there. I hve worked at a cake shop and i do know some people there but thats where i learned alot and i don't want to take any of her decorators from her. Its hard to find good decorators who have a passion for it. I don't want people who won't do the best they can do, i want people who are as passionet about it as i am and i want to pay them what they deserve, not just minimum wage like most places here. i only made 5.15 an hour where i worked. So i had to find a job doing something else instead of what i wanted to do. Now that i can open a buisness i want employees that want to bake and decorate.

I get calls all the time from students who want to Apprentist...for free!! I will probalby use some of them in the spring for wedding rushes...
They just looked at my web site and wanted to learn!

Maybe you can post on your web site that you are looking for young decorators?

I also agree, hit a local art school and see if any students want to do it. I persoally have a degree in art, and my cakes seem to show that. Art students make excellent cake decorators!
