I need a chocolate buttercream icing recipe other than the one on theis site. I made the one from the recipe section and it was awful. It called for 2 cups of butter, I thought that it was to much, but used it anyway. Followed the recipe to a T and the butter separated from the rest of the icing. I would like to find one the uses butter flavor instead of REAL butter.

There is a recipe on this web site I have used....it does call for butter but only a half cup.

From Lisa's Blue Ribbon cake recipe..

FROSTING

1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter, softened
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup chocolate syrup
1 package (16 ounces; about 4 cups) confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/8 - 1/4 cup whole or 2 percent milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Dash of salt

I've made it... it was great!! no probs with that amount of butter

Here's what I use:
half cup Crisco
half cup butter
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups (1lb.) icing sugar
start with 4 Tbsp. milk (add more to get right consistency)

The cocoa in this recipe seems to make the icing quite dry, but if you keep adding whole milk, it will get really nice and creamy.
