I need to purchase some clear vanilla for my class frosting, but from what I understand, imitation is bad??? icon_eek.gif I also read someone's post on the forum about using powdered real vanilla (white), instead of the pure vanilla extract (brown). Does that work like regular pure vanilla, and how does it taste?

Thanks!

Hi everyone -

I recently went to a Day of Sharing and a vendor sold me some powdered Dry Vanilla - just wondering if any of you have any method for how much should go in a recipe - I was told that its pretty powerful stuff!

Thanks for any input,

Ali in MA

I use it all the time. Especially when I can't find the liquid. Use it just like the other. But I put it in with my dry ingredients not wet so that it mixes in easier. HTH>

Is there a Michael's by you? What you are looking for is called Madagascar Vanilla - which is the clear vanilla and you get get it at Michael's in the Wilton section. I use the clear vanilla for my white icings and the vanilla taste is good, just not as strong as the regular vanilla - that's all.

It is also at Hobby Lobby in the candy section. I love the powder also. As you can tell from above. I read on the container that you use it as you would the liquid. HTH

So funny, I actually came to this section to post the same question!
I bought some, but now what do I do with it?? It smells GREAT!

I actually sprinkled it on my popcorn with some cinnamon and it was yummy! thumbs_up.gif

sunlover00 please let me know how your recipes turn out with the vanilla powder! Your popcorn sounds delicious!

Is the powder you bought white, or is it actually powdered brown vanilla beans? I think I've been researching this a little too much on the internet....

Thanks everyone for the tips on where to find it. I'm going shopping in the morning icon_biggrin.gif

It is snow white. My cake supply store had it. It cost $1.10 for 2.5oz

The Madagascar Powder Vanilla that I have is cream colored and I have used it in my wedding white icing and it did not discolor it at all. It kept it white. I was pleased with the results. HTH.
