I just delivered this cake today ... I baked it last weekend; wrapped in saran and foil and froze; which is the technique I learned here icon_smile.gif I took it out Friday morning to thaw. When I got home from work on Friday, I made the MMF and started the decorating part .. I had a bit of probs w/the MMF sticking and after 3 attempts to get the bottom tier's fondant rolled out, I finally got it done without any sticking .. lol It was an experience.. after the first tier, the 2nd and 3rd tiers went really easy ...

well, this morning, I got a call from my sister who is my right arm when it comes to delivering and setting up my wedding cakes .. my BIL got very ill this morning and had to be brought into the hospital so my sister could not be there with me... well my darling DH told me he'd go with me to set it up.. he said there was no way he'd let me do it by myself.. now I have to say, he is just awesome when it comes to ideas in my brainstorming sessions on what I want to do with my cakes .. when I feel my cakes are too plain and just need a little something else, he comes to my rescue and usually suggests the cutest ideas for me to do ... dunno what I'd do without him!! he carries all my cakes and places them in my trunk for me.. I trust him more than I do myself when it comes to carrying my cakes lol .. anyway, this wedding cake was just a normal white inside, covered with buttercream icing flavored with butavan.. MMF was rolled and put over the buttercream... the bride wanted 2 thin strips of silver on the bottom tier of her cake ... I had some problems finding the color of green in ribbon for the colors she had for her wedding, but finally found some .. I then glued 2 thin strips of silver ribbon onto the wider green ribbon (with the help of my DH again) .. the bride was marrying in a historic house that was converted into a restaurant (really beautiful set up) .. we carried all the tiers in and my DH helped me to line them up straight, then I just put the ribbon around the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd tier (I had already done the bottom tier at home before transporting)... was really an easy, very simple cake .. I do have to say, I was very shocked at the cake topper the bride chose ... I was expecting a very elegant cake topper, but that wasn't her choice lol.. she chose the one of the bride dragging the groom to the altar.. oh well, her choice of cake toppers, not mine! lol

let me know what you think of the cake icon_smile.gif thanks!
LL

Beautiful cake! Very elegant, I agree the topper doesn't really go with it though! Great Job! icon_biggrin.gif

I agree melodyangel.. I almost cried when I saw the cake topper on the table waiting to be placed on what I felt was a very elegant cake.. it deserved a better topper than the one she chose .. but it was her decision *sigh*

Your cake looks elegant and refined!! You should be so proud!! The cake topper is a little cheesy, but that is not what you contributed!

Such a pretty cake. I hate it that they picked that topper. It doesn't go with the cake. Good job to you!

I really like the topper, only because I have a warpped sense of humor.... I wanted an older lady standing behind the bride and groom on mine, but couldn't find one.... settled for doves.

Oh, the cake is gorgeous. Wonderful job!

Great job on the cake! The topper would have looked better on a side cake and something delicate would have looked prettier with your beautiful cake. (I do like the topper though, just maybe for a different style of cake is all)

My mom made my brother's wedding cake and had a real nice floral arrangement for the top until they turned their backs...then she replaced the flowers with a bride and groom skunk pair!! (That's our sense of humor)

Very Elegant icon_smile.gif Like the touch of the ribbon......... I have a question (new to all of this).............. Ribbon can go straight on to MMF without anything happening to the ribbon? I was told and can understand why on Buttercream because it would absorb the grease but didn't think about MMF. Was just wondering................

Love your work

bj with MMF, there is no grease so you can put the ribbon right up against the cake without any probs.. one thing I love about MMF icon_smile.gif

thanks everyone! I really enjoyed doing this cake .. I had a lot of fun with it icon_smile.gif

too funny jscakes about the cake topper w/the skunks!! .. this girl was a ballet dancer.. she's a very tiny thing and the room was so beautifully decorated .. when I saw the cake topper and the room decorations, the place where she had the wedding, it just didn't fit .. but this was her day .. it was her choice and I abide by what she wanted ... to each their own is what I say icon_smile.gif

thanks melodyangel1978, crp7, AgentCakeBaker, stephanie214, meghan89, peacockplace, mjarvis78, Debbi, bjfranco, diane, flayv, toosdai icon_smile.gif

she was easy to please diane .. I love a simple, yet elegant design .. I really loved this cake .. I thought it turned out well .. I was pleased with it .. I owe a lot of the credit to my DH for helping me to set it up and to make sure everything was nice and straight icon_smile.gif dunno what I'd do w/o him!!

I think this cake is so elegant. I agree about the topper it does NOT go with the elegance of the cake. You did a great job.

I love the simple design, and i like the topper, i too have a strange sense of humour, i am one for strange things, bottom of my wedding cake was choc, top was white. go against the grain i say.
Great job.

thanks gma1956 and nernan... as far as going against the grain, I did a wedding cake before that was 4-tier, bottom tier red velvet w/cream cheese filling, then yellow with bavarian filling .. each tier alternating .. it was the bride and groom's choice ... I'm all for doing something different .. lol

ntertayneme -- this cake is so beautiful!!!! It looks flawless! I agree w/the topper not being the best, but it doesn't detract one bit from what a fantastic job you did! --- Do you think the topper might have been the one thing the groom got to pick out?

LOL!!!

Great job on the cake. I do have to agree the cake topper is a bit tacky for such an elegant cake. I personally would have chosen a more elegant cake topper that compliements the cake. Perhaps monogrammed crystal cake toppers. Still simple but yet elegant. There's nothing worse than looking back at pictures a few years down the road and asking what Was i thinking LOL...

But great job on your part. Congrats.

Thanks Princess icon_smile.gif I truly felt the same way .. I know it was the brides choice but it was really hard to put that on top of the cake lol ... to me, the cake deserved something elegant and classy looking .. but this was the brides choice and even though we don't go along with it, we do what makes them happy icon_smile.gif

I love the cake. It's really pretty. The ribbon is just perfect!

Isn't that cake topper supposed to be for a grooms cake? I don't like it either. It's awful! icon_eek.gif
