Hi-

I've been searching for cake decorating supply stores in the Bay Area. I am about 45 min. east of San Francisco. I haven't had much luck finding any around me. So far, just in Santa Rosa and that's a bit far for me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Melissa

I'm in Antioch. I think I have heard from them before. I was hoping for something closer, but thanks for the info.

I'm in N. California also, in Modesto. I can't find any places here either for cake decorating. So, if anyone on this question knows of anywhere near Modesto, let me know!

Melissa, u know I'm in american canyon (vallejo)

about the only places I have found for us is:

Spun Sugar (berkeley) a little pricey but some hard to find stuff sometimes.. a LOT of chocolate

Cake art supplies (San Rafael) probably too far for you

a place in dixon I cant remember the name still probably too far but they remind me of a large michaels.. alot of wilton stuff

there is nancy's Fancy in santa rosa, Ive never been there but I have heard it is great!

how log would it take u to get to stockton? there is a place there that I have never been too, I can get the name..

Or cake castle in South sacramento

u may have to just make a day of it and take a ride.. otherwise gotta buy online..

i've been all over can u tell!

I've been to Nancy's - it's pretty good. I think I'll just have to make a trip to Berkeley and check that out.

We could use a place around here!!!!

American Canyon--- yep- I know where that is. I used to live in Vallejo and also Fairfield.

I hate paying shipping on stuff. I've been using Satin Ice and have had pretty good results so that's what I'm trying to find.

well DO NOT (i repeat DO NOT) go to spun sugar for satin ice!

I was there a few weeks ago and a 50 pound bucket is 90.00 or something like that.. their fondant is higher than I have seen it at any other place I have been to in No. Cal.. Cake art sells pettinice not satin ice, so not there either.. I don't know about Nancy's

have u considered making your own fondant? I have been using a recipe very similar to toba garrets.. I like the fondant.. the only reason I was looking for satin ice is because u should let the fondant rest overnight and I hadn't been giving myself enough time to do it

There are a few stores in Modesto as of edwards cake and candy off of bangs right before you his Mchenry. There is also another one in Mchenry village just opening up I forget the name of the store offhand. Also Michaels and Wal-mart carries very minimal supplies but they do have something.

Oh and I heard there was a good one in Stockton, ca

I've only been able to find one in Stockton called Kat's Cakes and they didn't have a very big selection, but I've been to the one in Modesto and they probably have the most supplies then any other place I've went to.

Piece of useless knowledge # 34523 about me....

I took my first cake decorating courses 18 years ago this summer at Nancy's Fancy.

I can't believe it's been that long but any time I go back to Santa Rosa (I grew up in Rohnert Park) I have to go there for old times sake and check the store out.

It's their fault I have been bit by the cake decorating bug. I only went in for 1st birthday party supplies for my niece.

That just made me realize she'll be 18 in September!!!!!!!

Where have the years gone??

When I was working at my friends store front we ordered all our supplies because there wasn't really anywhere to go in the East Bay area for supplies that we could find.

I am going to be in Sacramento next week for the Wilton AIM meeting and I plan in trying to find some stores to go check out in my free time. thumbs_up.gif

In Modesto there is Edwards Cake & Candy on Bangs/ McHenry. They have a large stock but I find they can be really pricey on some things. For instance, I can order Sweetex and have it shipped for way cheaper then what they sell it for.

Other things are really reasonable. I bounce between there and Michaels (using the coupon for big stuff). There is also one in Stockton called Kesters but their store was practically bare. Which was a bummer because they were so nice and the last couple times I had been to Edwards, they had a new lady who was so bloody rude it was ridiculous. I would have happily driven the extra 30 minutes to give my business to someone else, lol.

There used to be a supply store in South SF near the Trader Joe's, it's been a few years and I only went there when I had just started o get interested in doing cakes so I don't know if it's any good.

I looked it up, it's actually on Junipero Serra in Daly City, called Sugar and Spice. It's a weird, old little store but I'd bet you'd find all kinds of cool things!

I just wanted to add that I live in Windsor, 10 minutes north of Santa Rosa, and the Nancy Fancy's has new owners who have added lots more items. It is a great store and they have really good customer service. I am so glad that I am so close but it is definitely worth the drive up here.

Marque Foods has chocolates and Satinice and cocoa and marzipan and lots of great stuff, but it isn't exactly a store. You have to call and get prices and then order by phone, fax, or via e-mail. You can pick up in South San Francisco or they deliver with a minimum order (not quite sure what the minimum is or how far from SSF they go) They also ship.

Linton paper and supply in San Leandro has more things like boxes and boards and equipment and also has Satinice and Pettinice (which I prefer). Again, not a store and you have to have a business to buy. They don't have a website, but will send you catalogs from Bakery Craft, DecoPak, Caljava etc. that you can use to look for items and then call for pricing and to see if it's in stock. Shipping is fast. I often order and get the stuff the next day.

Qzina is the same deal as Marque Foods. You don't have to have a business license and they will ship (or you can pick up, I think.) With a minimum they will deliver. Not sure exactly where they are. http://www.qzina.com

Been to Nancy's Fancys (before they changed owners) huge store, large selection. Heard good things about Sugar and Spice in Daly City, but haven't been there.

I live in Daly City and go to Sugar and Spice alot, they have lots of cool stuff, this is the only place in my neck of the woods to get cake, cookie, any type of baking supplies. They even have classes there. So if anyone one of you are come to this side of the Bay Area check it out. They close at 5 pm on Fridays and Saturday, but open till 7 (I think) Monday - Thursday.
