I just moved to TN a couple of months ago and want to get my business started. I also want to take some more advance classes however I live in a smaller town and can't find anyone who gives advanced classes.
Also, does anyone out there know the requirements on a home kitchen in TN?
I am really addicted to this site, brand new member!
Welcome to CC southernbelle. Where in TN do you live? I am in Jonesborough TN. I have also been looking for some advanced courses and all I can find is places that give the basic stuff. I know your going to love it here on CC, there are so many wonderful people here and so helpful, you will learn things here that you will proably not learn in classes. Don't know about the requirements on doing cakes out of your home in Tn, maybe someone else can comment on that one
I already love it here on CC. I feel pretty stupid tho....I posted pictures of my 4th of July cakes. Had an error when uploading so I thought it didn't go through. Sent it again and now have 2 postings for the pictures.
Oh well. I live in Lebanon about 30 miles NE of Nashville. Pretty limited here with decorating classes but I am asking around. This site is great. I feel so green when I look at some of these cake people have made. How amazing. Thanks for the post iris, I will let you know if I have any luck with the classes.
Hi y'all. I'm in Knoxville. Just ran across your posts. I do a few cakes for people also. I understand that you have to have a totally seperate kitchen to do your business from, if you're working from your home. But I've been told that the Health dept won't normally mess with you unless you have complaints filed against you. And then they may or may not come by to inspect and/or shut you down. They just don't have the manpower or the time to police all of the home bakers there are! So good luck with your business.
Also I understand that Walters State Community College offers a cake decorating course for credit. You might check with your local Comm. College.
Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked on line at Volunteer Community and at Cumberland. I didn't see anything but I may just have to pick up the phone and call them. Thanks again for the suggestions
