The Wedding Cake Is Done!! Thanks To All

Just wanted to put in a thread thanking EVERYONE who helped answer questions for me. This was the biggest wedding cake and reception I've been too. I think the final head count was somewhere between 225-240. WOW!
For those of you who responded to my earlier post about using the alcohol and spraying with dust...well I tried using clear almond but I couldn't tell a difference between the tier that was sprayed and the tier that wasn't so I didn't bother. Come to find out all the lights in the reception hall was turned off and everything was lit by Christmas lights and candles.
I know I still have a lot to learn but I'm pretty proud of the way it turned out. For those of you that can get your buttercream smooth...I bow to you. That was the most flusterating thing. For some reason I just can't get it that smooth, and I was using the viva AND the roller.
Thanks again!!
Missy
Give yourself a pat on the back, sit back, and put your feet up. You did a great job! Whew!
I love your cake base! Did you buy it or make it? If you made it, how did you make it?
The cake is lovely!
Wow.. it looks fantastic!!! All five layers
Just for my newbie brain to file away for future reference... can you tell me what you used to support each tier? Thanks..
Again ... Congratulations on your beautiful work
Awesome job. It's beautiful!! Have you ever used the Melvira Method with the rollers? Along with the crusting VIVA buttercream icing. It's awesome.
Fantastic!!! Looks very smooth. I have so much trouble getting fondant smooth on round cakes.
Thanks everyone.
I made the base it was just a 3/4 inch piece of plywood that I covered with batting you buy for a bumper pad. I think I put about 5 layers and then just stapled the material over it.
As for the support, I use 1/4 dowel rods. The bottom tier had 20, next tier had 14, then 10 and next 8. I know some don't use that many but I would rather have more than not enough.
