I have been researching the laws in my county and found that I can bake out of my home. So I proceeded to the next step and called the dept. of Agriculture, they refered me to the local health department as they don't handle just cakes. Well I got a call from the health department on Friday and they said as far as they are concerned I'm all set and can even sell to restaurants if I wanted to. (I'm not sure I'm ready for that but maybe in the future.) Anyway now all I have to do is get my business license.

So now thinking about advertising and getting the word out. I've done alot of cakes for co-workers but it doesn't seem to go much further. There is a temporary company in the building were I work and thought about trying to advertise there. It's the headquarters for Hillary Clinton's campain. What do you think? Maybe I could make a cake for Hillary?

I think anything you can do to get you name out there is open ground. As to who to make the cake for, sorry prefer not to comment.

You better!!!!
If you don't, give me the address and I will...
That sounds like an amazing opportunity, even if it never reaches her. Be confident and professional, it could go a long way.
Good luck!!!

I'd still encourage you to drop off a sample there to get an order for an event. icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Those are the type of profile cakes that fit the "look good on your resume" category. We've got the 2008 Rep Nat'l Convention here and I'm wondering "Hmmm, do I call up ____ and find out if I can do the cake for an event????" because, let's face it, there are going to be a ton of parties going on and they need cake, right!??!??! Of course, I know quite a few people that are going to be in attendance, but still..

Go for it....Even if you don't vote for her doesn't mean you can't take their money...

It would be great to have all those campaign workers taste your cakes and if you do cookies send some of those too. Give them a price sheet for what you do and ask them to keep you in mind for any upcoming events.

You don't have to agree with someones politics to make money off of them.

I say that it certainly can't hurt - you never know, if your cake gets enough rave reviews, she just might be offered a piece from someone in her office, or if she's looking for a cake later, they'll recommened you! But even if she never hears about you or your cake, consider it still worth your time for all the potential cake orderers that work in her office!

P.S. I grew up in Syracuse, so I had to do a double take when I saw that you're from Chittenango - very rarely do I come across someone from there! I live in the Atlanta area now, and I sure don't miss the winters up there!

Thanks to all,

Tomorrow morning I'm going to walk right in there and offer my services.

Pyxxydust, I lived in Florida and Alabama and then returned to NY 16 years ago and wouldn't trade the seasons up here for anything. The winters well it's just snow - not tornados or huricanes or earthquakes.

cupdake, Jennt and sundine2 - you're absolutely right! I'm not political at all and I was just thinking of a way to get my name out there. They got the money so why not share it with a few of us!

Thanks a bunch guys!
