Since I'm a Melissa too (*just spelled differently) I will be your sponsor and kick your fanny into gear! We Melyssa's will stick together. I only say this because.....well when I have a cake to do I seem to spend half the day on CC instead of in the kitchen so I may need your help next time. What's wrong with us? Why are we addicts? ha ha ha

It gets better and better. Melysa, this was a clear example of when it is oh so necessary to put your foot down on the 'zilla toes to snap them back to this world. Not only did you get your point across and come out as "Charles in Charge" (LOL yeah i'm crazy) but she got the point, apologized profusely (and it seems sincere) and you will still get your $900! You should be damn proud of yourself.

I can.not.wait to see these cake pictures! When is the wedding?

OK you have 2 days for this shower cake!! GET TO WORK WOMAN! thumbs_up.gif

I must say, it's so funny to hear you say she's more of a friend of a friend but when you read her emails, you are her BFF. icon_lol.gif

Wow! I'm just glad their are other decorators out there with the same problems! Your response was great! About there not being 12 other employees and you are the only one and it is true...we pay great attention to detail because we are the only ones doing it. And the liquor thing....WOW! That is what I had to send my dh out to find...and it costs a fortune. I just wish that I could copy your email and send it out whenever I get an order so people understand what we do! icon_smile.gif Anyways...I'm glad it worked out for you!!!!! icon_smile.gif

Melysa - you did the right things in both situations - you stood your ground when it was necessary and showed compassion when necessary. This young woman has learned many lessons from you. Good luck with you cakes and please don't forget to post them!!

well, put me down as 'entertained'
we have a doctor's appointment, i can't wait to come back and read the pages i didn't get to, yet.

you gotta feel sorry for the kid, she CLEARLY doesn't have good relationships with anyone....it's a bit telling when the cake decorator becomes the confidant.....

i just pray that somehow she begins to get a clue....family won't participate in wedding? decorator driven away? no one to talk to...

maybe this will be the start of her opening her eyes to reality....you did a great job of speaking truth to her...

optimistic,
sally

Just wanted to say that you handled this situation perfectly. You were willing to walk away from the cakes because of her behavior but you were willing to make the cakes when she changed her behavior. I do agree that you have the upper hand...and have no doubt that you will "drop it like a hot coal" should she have a momentary lapse in memory!! You go, girl!! You will do a beautiful job on these cakes and we want pictures!!!

I'm proud of the way you handled things! It wasn't an easy decision to make. I'm glad you stood up for yourself, but very glad you still get to make the cake and pocket the cash.

I find it very odd that Miss Prissypants is paying for her own shower. Weird...especially when there is a hostess involved. Knock her socks off, Sister---with your CBS!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Sounds like she tried to apologize and now you aren't making her wedidng cake - FINE - but not making the cake that is due in 2 days? That is just mean in my opinion. We can't always know what is going on in our minds and should try to give the benefit of the doubt when we can. I know if I were having a hrad time I wouldn't want to be treated that way...OK everyone - fire away at me - I know you all think I am wrong about this!

I completely agree. I don't think the bride was being mean at all... sounded to me like she was overwhelmed and frustrated. And the fact that you've known each other and considered each other friends, she thought she could vent a little frustration about the wedding in general (not just the cake). How sad she must be that not only does her family not want anything to do with the wedding, but her "friends" desert her as well?

Sorry, but I just didn't see that she was being rude at all. Canceling a cake this weekend on such short notice IS rude however. You left her in a bind. Not fair. Not fair at all.

Wow! I didn't even get to read all the posts to know where it was going...haha. Sounds like me. I have a girl that sends me a lot of referrals so I told her I'd make her baby shower cake as part of my gift for her baby shower. Well, she picks out this design from wilton (the bear that looks like he's in the crib) and then proceeds to tell me that NO ONE else can have this cake?! Excuse me??? For the right price, EVERY ONE can have that cake! I have another shower (that this girl will be a guest at) next week and planned out that cake. I saw her at the grocery store and she goes on to tell me again how this other girls cake can't be better than hers and that she can NOT have the bear in a crib cake. I finally got fed up (after all I AM doing HER a favor by not charging for the baby shower cake) and told her that Free can't be choosy. I know, that was wrong, but I've begun to feel like she's taking advantage of me, and it's really making me mad!

Sorry to vent, I think this girl is, like the other said, being overly dramatic and maybe there's a different underlying problem. I bought my wedding cake at the grocery store (for a darn good price because I got someone that didn't know the prices well) and it didn't stop me from getting married...haha

Keyshia
