I rec'd a call last week from a cartering co who gave my name as a possible person to do their wedding cake. She gave me the brides name and number and I am so scared to call.

I have only done 2 cakes and one was for my stepdaughter. I know I can do it, providing the request is not to detail. I can do the basic and then some, but haven't had the opportunity to expand beyond that and this could be that chance...don't know what to do???? icon_confused.gif

I think I need a pep talk to boost my confidence or if anyone else has had these jitters, please share icon_smile.gif

Why don't you give her a call and instead of doing a big sales pitch over the phone, explain that this catering company asked you to call her re: wedding cake and you'd like to send her some information. Once she's had a chance to look it over and if she likes what she sees, invite her to call you to set a sampling appt.

I have a pre-formatted email with about 7 attachments that I send to all inquiries with all the info they need to make a decision.

I am very anti-hard-sell and like my brides to feel comfortable and relaxed. There are a lot of wedding vendors who put the hard-squeeze on these ladies ..... they will remember the ones who treated them with respect.

Picking up the phone is the hardest part. Just tell her that you heard from so-and so that she was looking for a wedding cake designer. She will probably take over the conversation from there. But there is a good chance that you will get her machine. Leave a professional message with your number, and then you are done. With that part anyway! Good luck.

If you anticipate her questions and prepare your answers, you'll feel much more prepared and less nervous. She will probably want to know: Cost - be able to quote your cost for, say 100 serve cake, 200 serves etc. or have a cost for "basic" cake which covers fondant/bc, border, but anything extra (such as flowers) is charged on top.
Have a list of questions that you will ask her : firstly, what date is the wedding, because you might be booked for that day already; how many people at wedding, dessert or coffee serves, whether she has any particular design in mind. You'll be fine!!
