Seriously....sometimes I do. I've spent hours on a cake I've already done bazillions of times. Round cake with scrollwork, blah, blah, blah.

Of course I can't get this right to save my big fat keister. The icing, despite using the famed Melvira method is anything but smooth, the sides look crooked, and the top layer on my second tier fissured, forcing me to rebake it. The 3rd tier (from the bottom) looks like it was spackled by a blind man. And how many times do I have to pipe scrollwork to look like I've done it before???? icon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_redface.gificon_redface.gif

It's 1am and I'm still not done. I have to make a monogram for the top tier and print out all my paperwork, and I'll probably have to assemble the final 2 tiers at the venue, even tho I wanted it to be all done for delivery. I'm exhausted and my dining room looks like my mental image of Hiroshima after the bomb dropped.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'll post pics after (read "if") I get this stupid thing done....

Here it is, the big PITA. So glad it's over, I almost had to shoot myself in the head.

The second tier from the bottom had to be rebaked, it fell apart on me. The one on top of that had problems with the icing adhering to the cake, so I had to scrape and re-do about 4 times, so the icing looks like hell. And as I was assembling I noticed that the black looked like it was going to bleed. I swear I need a drink. I hope nothing else goes wrong before they cut it, I've got about another hour or so.

I am so sorry, I know exaclty how you feel. Your cake really is beautiful, and you should be very happy with it. Even though everytime you look at it you probally want to spit venom because of all the troubles it caused you.
Have a nice glass of wine put your feet up and leave the dishes for later. You did a wonderful job, truly thumbs_up.gif

I know what you mean, sometimes we have one of those days. I spend so much time leveling cakes to make them perfect, and they never are. I get so frustrated because I love the creative side of cake decorating, but if the rest of the cake is off, it drives me crazy. Then sometimes the sides aren't straight or I can't get the buttercream smooth, or the cake sticks to the pan, I could go on and on. I totally sympathize with you, but your cake looks beautiful, you would never know. I can't tell you the times I have wanted to trash the whole cake, but if I keep going it usually works out.

I think we all have those cakes we just want to pitch out the back door. Your cake looks great! I bet if you didn't say anything nobody would have even known it was the cake from *&%$! Did I mention that it looks great? I LOVE the monogram, too.

Your cake looks fine. I don't know why we all stress over things, I guess it is just the way it is. Nobody knows what you went through to get to the table and look right. Your secrets are safe.

We are our own worst critics.............I think you cake is stunning, and one would never know it caused you so much trouble..........I am the same way, I pulled an all nighter on my last cake to get it done, because I can't just quit and go to bed when it's not finished..........believe me, I am sure the couple is quite happy with the cake........ icon_smile.gif
