Ok i finally bit the bullet and did a baby shower cake for a friend. I told her of my "newness" to all this and she trusted me,partly because she knew if i ran into trouble my DH would take over( thats what i think, he he).
Its a strawberry swirl cake with a butter cake base. Everything else is fondant and NEVER again. I am happy with it, as everyone says of their cakes i can pick all the flaws, but shes happy. Hope you like it, its in my photos. My DH made the train.

I think it's cute, you did a great job! Okay, why never again...was it the fondant or the stress?

It was just the stress i put myself under to get things right. The decorations were harder than i thought, i have no concept of shapes, my DH saved me big time. The cake was a hit at the shower so i am happy.

Hey, I think that it's great to have husband and wife cake making teams. thumbs_up.gif Helps with the communication thing that is sooo needed in homes these days.
My husband and I like to brew beer at home, it's our relaxing hobbie, I do the "cooking" portion of it, and he does the cleaning and the heavy lifting for me. Oh, and he also comes up with ideas for different beers to make.

Hi there,

how many layers of fondant did you use? I am making my first cake at the moment, the exact same design as yours too. Except mine will be blue for my boys christening. I am now thinking of changing to another less trying design for a first though!

Great job.. hope mine turns out as good!

Hi occi, i just answered your post on marzipan. i only used 1 layer. Its not a hard design if you've got good shaping skills, my DH has and he did the train. Give it a go you wont know till you try.
Good Luck
Narelle
