I think, and i'm not 100% sure on this is that petal dust will give you color and lustre dust will give you color plus a pearl type effect. I used lustre dust in my airbrush last night for the first time and the color seemed to have a pearl-like sheen to it. There's also a sparkle dust and a pearl dust but i haven't tried them yet

Lustre dust give you a highy metallic sheen that looks satiny. Petal dust is a plain opaque color that can be used to tint flowers and such. Alcohol deepens the color for petal dust and adds brilliance to lustre dust. the higher the alcohol content the brighter the color.

For Reference

1. Pixie dust: Is basically edible glitter

2. Pearl dust: Is a white dust base tinted with another color to give different shades of pearl.

Hope I was able to help!

This was the first time i tried it last weekend. I mixed a container of Teal lster dust with a nip sized bottle of 80 proof vodka. I mixed them together in a plastic bottle that i could seal, I'm not sure if this is the correct ratio or not but it seemed to work. I did notice that i needed t really shake up the mixture whenever i refilled the airbrush. I think next time i'll try 1 container of luster dust to 2 nip bottles of vodka and see how that works. Better to have the mixture too thin and have to do more coats than too thick and have it clog up the airbrush.
