I read somewhere that someone baked a cake in their kitchen aid mixing bowl because they didn't have a wonder mold pan. Is it possible to do this? How would you get the center to cook?

You would have to use something metal for a core to bake the center. More shallow pans use flower nails but you need something much longer for this.
If you can get a steel rod, grease/flour and set in center you should be fine doing this. You could even wait until the cake bakes a while so it would be easier to stand the rod.
