Ok, so I am going to make a baby shower cake for my little sister. She's 18 and the baby girl is due in October. She LOVES stars, nautical stars specifically. I was thinking about doing a 2 layer cake, buttercream frosted, but for the "topper" I am looking for a little pair of shoes with stars on them. . . . anyway, my question . . . . Is there a way, or a template, or anything to help me cut a nautical star pattern out of fondant? I am planning on making the color scheme of the cake a bright pink (think punk rock shade) with pink and black nautical stars . . . kind of strange, yes, but I want her to LOVE this. So if anyone who knows fondant better than me (which is probably everybody) could help me out, I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks! icon_smile.gif

Can you use star cookie cutters? Or maybe paint stars onto your fondant. You might be able to shape a pair of shoes out of fondant too. Good luck!

I would just roll out your fondant, cut it out with a cookie cutter and either use an airbrush to make the white/pink areas on it....or if you don't have one, you could always use a royal icing. It would give it a unique look.

Good luck!

That star is really popular this days on youth is a brand logo also, anyway I think if you do it with royal icing is going to look beautiful!

If you use color flow you can trace the stars in one color and then fill in the pink.. Just make sure they have time to dry.

Wilton makes a star candy mold:

You could mold stars from fondant, gumpaste, or candy melts and paint them. I put two stars back-to-back with a wire in between the layers for a full 3-D star.

How about using cutters to do the stars in pink & black. Then use an xacto knife to cut the sections out. Piece them back together alternating the colors, and it should give you what you're looking for. Sounds neat!

This would be lots of work but use a quilting template and cut them out and glue the colors together???????????????????? In my pics I used a scrapbooking template to make a graduation cap and gown. Just a thought for you.

That candy mold idea looks perfect ........................

i agree, i would use a star cookie cutter, make 2 stars, in in black and one in pink, then, I use an exacto knife to cut the star points in half. after you have your star pieces you need, then you can put the stars together how you want them alternating between black and pink.
cute idea! post pics.
