Ok so our kis are turning 3 and one. One on September 20th one on October 4th, my husband and I agreed that we would do double birthdays for good, we always give our babies a big 1st bday bash, I know a lot of people are against those cause the baby is too young to even remember BUT who said the party is for the baby? icon_lol.gif Ok so since my DD is turning one big rother gets to have a big party again, because of the double party and all. Their following birthdays will just be average parties. So I had finally decided to make him a Shrek cake, but haven't decided on baby's cake yet. Well my husband just thought of an idea that I am not too crazy about . He said to make a sheet cake, and devide it exactly in half the table decorations as well even split the tablecloth, and make one half of the cake his theme the other half her theme, problem is how do it do that, and I honestly think is a little tacky. I was just thinking of decorating the table in a solid color and each one their cake, their party will have lots of people so two cakes = the portions I need what do you think? And how do I find a cake liek what my husband says I cannot search anything in the galleries have you seen anything like it?

Sylvester and Tweety, Batman and Cat Woman, Spiderman, Wonderwoman, Do the kids today know who she is? Hahahahaha..........Doug's idea was GREAT for todays theme. All depends what the kiddies are into, just about every man has a good woman. LOL

Hey even Scooby with the Mystery Machine has the girls by him, maybe do a FBCT. Ken and Barbie, maybe Barbie can drop Ken for a Wrestler?. On and on it goes......................Post a picture.

I agree, just do your double theme.

There are so many fun characters out there that can be matched, Diego and Dora, all the others mentioned above.

I have seen some cakes that are divided, I just cannot remember the reason for the cake, but they looked good.

I did a search on "twins cake" but only got a few hits and all girly or animals.

If you want to make a large cake, you could make a large book looking one, on 1 page have shrek for your DS and on the other something else for your DD you could put anything on it just like books with multi stories.

or, here a few other examples:

Good Luck

If you look in my photos, there are two sheetcakes that were for a brother and sister that were split down the middle. One is Barbie and Yu-Gi-Oh and the other is just one side girly and the other more masculine (didn't want a theme this year!). And I also have a two tiered cake in my photos that is a triple hobby cake. I split it into three sides and did each one a different hobby.
HTH,

If you want hers to be a little more girly what about this idea... now just remember I really like to do tiered cakes so of course I have one in the design.

One cake (or half of the cake) is deocrated like the swamp with shrek. Second cake (or other half with a stacked cake on it) decorated all pretty and pink with a castle for Fiona?

Just an idea, I can see it in my head but no drawing abiblities here.

You may or may not agree with this, but for YEARS my sister had to share her birthday. She hated the fact that she had to share to begin with, but having her own cake at least made it better. Your kids might be too young right now, but in the future, please think about that. I would combine birthdays if my kids were close together, but I would never make just one cake. The decorations could be standard...just bright colored plates, streamers, tablecloths, balloons...without any characters so it wouldn't be too tacky (Incredible Hulk paired with Barbie-YIKES!!).

I did this a few years back for 3 of my kids...........yes, 3 different themes on the cake........Spiderman, Bratz, and Strawberry Shortcake.......Red border went well, but I have to admit, it was the tackiest cake I have ever done. But they were all pretty young, and didn't really mind the combination bday party..........now we do a party around the 1st for my youngest, one around the 9th for my youngest daughter, and the last one around the 17th for my oldest girl........oh, and did I mention all in December? Yes, for the first two weekends we have small cakes, the third week an ice cream cake (my oldest takes after me, does not like cake), and the following week is Christmas.........ugghhh........So, for now one cake might work, but in the future, I would do small cakes for each or cupcakes..........they are a big thing right now!

I did a wedding/baby shower sheet cake once & I just really try to avoid splitting one cake up. I feel like 2 themes, 2 cakes is the best way to express them. I like the suggestion of Shreck with Fiona though- those two would look really cute together & perfect colors!!

I've seen cakes w/ 2 themes - with a shell border down the middle separating the two. But personally I think each child deserves their own party. Especially if they are different months.

I made a two sided cake for mty twins last year...they loved it....because they each had their "own" cake....i was able to do two different themes on one cake....and they still got a"big" cake rather then each getting two small cakes.....

that way you can do one side shrek the other girly! and the other side will be none the wiser icon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gif

I like the idea of the two themes on one cake. But also like two cakes. I know this isn't what your looking for but I did a wedding / baby shower cake that they wanted done on one sheet cake. It came out ok...I guess icon_redface.gif

I did this for my kids birthday (11year old boy and 5 year old girl 2 days apart). Made a sheet cake and divided it down the middle........put graham crackers on their side as a "fence"...for the girls side, I piped a white picketsonto the "fence" with garden flowers here and there and made a summer theme. On the other side I made the "fence" dark with ivy & creepy crawly critters and made a Harry Potter themed cake complete with a Nimbus 2000.

The kids got a huge kick out of it. I didn't think it was tacky but then again, I don't have elaborate kids parties. Perhaps to some it might be......just not me icon_lol.gif

What about doing a big Shrek cake for your 4 year old - enough cake for everybody at the party.
Then do a small cake just for your one year old. Around here when a baby turns one they give them their own cake and the child gets to make a mess!

Then you can make the small cake as girly as you want!

I've been duel themed cakes for years.....I have boy/girl twins. They just turned 15 last week. This is the first year that I haven't had to make a cake for both. My son is in Idaho with his dad for a few more weeks, and my daughter is home with me. She got the "royal" treatment this year and had her "Harry Potter" wish cake. I have posted some of my pictures of my "twin" cakes over the years. Unfortunately, the really good ones were taken before I had a digtal camera, and I have lost track of them, having moved 4 times since they were taken. icon_sad.gif

I'd stick with either doing two small rounds, like my "sunglasses" pic, or do a single duel cake. They won't mind while they are still small. I didn't do a "separate cake for each" thing until my two were 10. That's when they start thinking it's "lame" to have one together.......*mom rolls her eyes now*

I miss those cute little days........*sighs* thumbs_up.gif
