I made a cake this weekend for DH 39th. When I leveled it, there were holes - not really large ones, but holes. icon_sad.gif This is the first time this has happened to me. I was wondering if anyone knows what causes this. I was wondering if maybe I just mixed/beat the cake batter too much?

Did you tap your filled cake pans on a counter or table to bring up the bubbles that are formed when beating? If not, this could be why.

I always tap my pans, about 10 times, to bring those bubbles up to the surface.

I also tap my pan on the counter several times before baking. It does work for me also.
