Does anyone use polymer clay books for directions on scuplting figures?

I need to find out how to do a person (female) and four cats.

I thought about using polyer clay and her being able to keep the cake topper after she takes if off her cake. If not then i might do it out of fondant or gumpaste.

If anyone know of any good polymer clay books with some good directions or even a website with good directions i would be so grateful.

Thanks

Tina

I like The Sculpey Way With Polymer Clay. There are lots of other good clay books out there, though, with good ideas. When you have some time, look through them at the craft store and see which books' styles catch your eye. Some are very formal and some are very whimsical.

Just make sure the recipients know if it is going to be edible or not. (If you use edible you should not use wires in the figures.) Good luck!

I went to our local library to look at clay sculptin books. I've taken a couple out of the library, but haven't had chance to look at them yet.

It just saves spending money until you find one that you definately like!

I vote for the Sculpey books as well! Very cute figures and excellent instructions. I got several on eBay, in thrift stores, and on half.com. Try looking at those places as well, if you decide to purchase.

I just bought another new book that is really meant for clay figures but I'll be using it for fondant. It's got lots of animals and it's super easy. There's a cute cat sitting upright in this new book.

Check out Michael's or Joanns if you have them in your area. It's kind of hit and miss to find the books but I check often and every now and then they get new ones so I scoop them right up.

I just found a character sculpting book and website. Go to www.maisieparrish.com and the names of her books are on there. She is a fantastic artist. Hope this helps!

Also, another tip - just type in "polymer clay videos" into Google. I got a lot of things like that.
